Swim
Comments: First off let me say I am not a fast swimmer. However, I'm not that slow. I was in the first wave of the morning. As we were all standing around in the water waiting for the start, the race announcer came on the the microphone and said we would be starting shortly. 2 seconds later the gun went off! I was unprepared as I had yet put on my goggles and quickly did so as I was moving forward. 25 meters into the swim my goggles had completely filled with water. Needless to say I struggled with sighting and probably could have done the swim faster if I could have seen the canoe that I ran into. What would you do differently?: Swim with my eyes open. Transition 1
Comments: I dropped my bike on the way out but got it picked up quickly so no problem here...or so I thought. What would you do differently?: Don't drop kick my bike. Bike
Comments: I was so excited to be on my bike and start racing with my eyes open. I was confident my problems were behind me. Not so fast. A little less than a mile into the ride my bike started making a clicking sound. It took me a minute figure out where it was coming from. It was my wireless computer making contact with my wheel spokes. I figure I whacked it out of place when I dropped my bike in transition. I stopped and quickly got it fixed. I figure it cost me about a minute. After that I feel like I had a solid ride. I have had races in the past that I feel like I have gone too hard on the bike and left nothing for the run. This time I felt like I could have pushed a little harder but overall I think it was a good pace for me. What would you do differently?: Don't break my bike. Transition 2
Comments: No problems here. Would like to do transitions a little quicker but I'm not confident taking feet out of shoes while still on the bike. What would you do differently?: Practice. Run
Comments: Overall a pretty good run for me. It was 1/2 road run and 1/2 trail run. We had really bad storms the night before so the trail was very muddy and had some debris. It felt like an obsticle course between dodging the puddles and jumping over fallen trees (no kidding). At one point I checked to see if I had a Jockey on my back becuase I was sure I had died and come back as an equestrian horse. If only I could run like one. What would you do differently?: Eat more oats and sugar cubes. Post race
Warm down: Drank some gatorade and cheered on a couple of my buddies that did the race with me. What limited your ability to perform faster: The length of the race. If it had been shorter I'm sure I would have done it faster. Event comments: I've done this race twice now and will come back next year. They do a good job. Last updated: 2009-06-15 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:30 to go through my pre race routine. Oatmeal with a banana and a Cliff bar is my breakfast of choice. Tried to double check my gear since we had lost power the night before and had to pack in the dark. Felt like I had everything but found out at the race site I had forgot my Aleve. Luckily my buddy had extra so I was all good. It's about an hour drive for us so we got on the road around 6am and got there about 7am. Right in time for it to start raining.
Light swimming. About 75 meters or so.
