Swim
Comments: I am satisfied and have room to improve with experience. Transition 1
Comments: Pleasantly surprised that I was not groggy coming out of the water. Had a long run from swim to bike and a long run from transition to bike start. This made for a long run with bike and in shoes. What would you do differently?: Get a better spot in transition. Bike
Comments: I tried to keep pace with several better athletes and finally had to dial back my effort on the bike so as not to burn out completely before the run. It was a decent ride, but I had a new set of aerobars on the bike and had a little trouble getting in a comfortable position. Stayed hydrated pretty well and took 2 GUs during the bike (more on that later). Transition 2
Comments: Surprisingly quick transition. Don't know why. Run
Comments: This is where my race took a bad turn. Actually I should blame it on the fact that I could not use the bathroom before the start and then I took two GUs with in 15 minutes on the bike and these were not digested very well. So about mile 3 my system began to revolt. I had to stop multiple times. What would you do differently?: Use the bathroom first. Or just stop during the run and take care of business. Post race
Warm down: Got a couple of drinks, banana and laid under a tree for five minutes. Found a bathroom. Hardly a warm down exactly. What limited your ability to perform faster: See above. I set a generous time goal of 2:40, but I was really hoping to best that goal handily. Find something other than GUs that my system can handle better. In general I need to do a better job with my nutrition plan. Event comments: This race is one of my favorites. Last updated: 2009-06-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4 AM to get a bite to eat before making the 40 minute drive from Lake Geneva to Pleasant Prarie. Got to the parking lot, did a couple of things by the car like pumping tires to minimize the stuff to carry on the bike. Rode down to the race venue to finish up. Still had several things to do in transition and it took too much time. Since I did not drop my bike off the night before, I did not get a good spot in transition.
Short bike ride, a dip in the lake, and a short stretch. Wish I could have stretched more. I was rushed for time and did not finish my usual stretching routine. Forgot to do hop flexors (minor problem). Tried to find a short line for the bathroom but could not. Did not get to use bathroom before race start (major problem).
