Run
Comments: I felt really good about my run. I didn't have big expectation b/c I hadn't had a long run since my accident. They day before my crash I ran 10 miles. I had been biking though and had done some short 4 mile runs. I started ok and felt good. At the 5k I was around 11 minute miles. My goal was to finish under 2:30. My dream was to beat 2:26. The last Half mary I ran was in December and I had my personal best. After the 5k mark I saw the 2:30 pacer in front of me. (They carry little signs saying they are expecting 2:30 finish.) I thought if I could stay close to them I'd be on track. I was shocked when i passed the pacer pretty easily. I kept moving and realized around the 6 mile mark that I might be able to beat my time. There was a girl in front of me that I used as a pacer. She had "Big Red" on the back of her shirt. I drank and walked through all the water stops and ate some kind of gel blocks that I got free in my bag. They were good and gave me what I needed to keep moving. My pacer Big Red led me to mile 12! I was able to pass her up as we approached the finish. It is a long way from mile 12 to the finish and many people push too hard b/c they can't see the finish due to a curve in the road. I don't think I could have made it without her. Pacers are key!! Heart rate was in zone 4 the whole race except for the final sprint to the finish. Happy with that! What would you do differently?: I would try to drop more weight! Post race
Warm down: Made a mad dash for the car to go pick up the kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight. Event comments: These races are huge but are run well. I love the hype and crowds. Last updated: 2009-06-16 12:00 AM

Woke up, dressed and drove in. I forgot to eat something so I sucked down a gu before the race. Long restroom lines. My sis in law saw Ali the "biggest loser" while waiting in line. She said she looked awesome. The only famous person I saw before the race was Senator John McCain. He was greeting racers at the start line.
No warm up. Heart rate got up just trying to get where I needed to be. I felt a little rushed. Left my hubby and sis in law with the walkers and I jumped up a few corrales.
