Pre-race routine:

The night before we got all our gear organized and wrote out checklist. Loaded all into car and got coffee ready for early am. Got up at 4:30, coffee banana and a powerbar. Lots of water on way to race.
Event warmup:

Trying to find parking. the lots were jammed with long waiting lines. There is a HUGE walk to race area from parking but luckily we had bags so we put all on our backs and rode bikes to transition. Registered, set up transition, got in water and swam a bit.
Swim
  • 40h 21m
  • 1640 yards
  • 2h 27m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Oh I stink I stink..My last race I had a 44 min swim because I swam freestyle and got lost and missed the bouys. So this race I said to heck with it and swam mostly breast stroke...I also was 'taking it easy' since my coach added 2 extra running miles at the end...I really want to race with an all out swim approach to see how I feel...
What would you do differently?:

Inject Michael Phelps Blood into my arms, grow a foot and learn to swim straight...Seriously though I need to learn how to be uncomfortable with the swim and get over nerves so I can just relax and swim a decent freestyle...
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I need to learn to run faster in these transition areas but I am on rubber legs when I get out of the water so its hard to sprint to the bike...
What would you do differently?:

I need to pratice sprinting out of the water becuase none of these races have transitions very close to the swim exit.
Bike

  • 18.20 mile/hr
Comments:

OK so I LOVE the bike. Even with holding back for the run I feel very strong on the bike and its always th best part of my race. EXCEPT...when I get stuck for 20 minutes behind a HUGE pontoon boat..This sucker would not pull over and the only way around him was to ride into the oncoming bikers which i was not willing to do. Sooo..I just hung out behind him, climbed aboard, had a beer, listened to some music and caught a few catfish...I mean seriously this is why I would like it if races could close off roads or something. This thing created a huge and dangerous situation. Then again drafting off him really gave me fresh legs for the run...
What would you do differently?:

Not get stuck behind a pontoon boat...
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
What would you do differently?:

not sure
Run
  • 1h 13m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I have such pretty form but go no where fast..Then again this was a training race and I had two extra miles I added on at the end but I tried to push the last 2 miles of the 6. Overall I will always be a slow runner but hopefully I will continue to improve. Sadly my fastest 10k pace is 1:08 so 1:13 isn't so bad for me...
What would you do differently?:

Ahhh...so many beers over so many years probably has something to do with the slow running pace now...
Post race
Warm down:

ran 2 miles

What limited your ability to perform faster:

held back because was a training race

Event comments:

It has both a sprint and an oly so be prepared for a big crowd

Mellow HR and was trying to hold back on the bike until I got tangles with the stupid pontoon boat
Wind: Little with gusts
Course: Rolling hills. Nothing too bad but lots of cars in the way messed up getting a solid pace..The course is a big loop and pretty easy to follow. This race seemed pretty competative to me I did not see a lot of novice bikes. Lost of race tri bikers...

Course: a tiny bit of slight hills and a long flat across a dam. VERY Pretty course and because I am sooo slow I got to hear birds, wind in trees and water lapping on the dam which was really relaxing and pretty. Luckily it was overcast because I could tell that had it been sunny out this would have been one sweltering type run
