Swim
Comments: Felt really good on the swim, kept my rhythm and breathing. Started off great, not too fast and kept it up all the way to the end! Could have swam longer!!! What would you do differently?: Practice sighting, was off course a few time as I wasn't headed straight for the bouy. Transition 1
Comments: Safty pins fell out and race number fell off while putting jersey on. Got into shoes easy enough. What would you do differently?: Set up jersey inside out so it would be easier to put on. Also, get race number belt to make transition faster. Practice biking on top of shoes and slipping into them, or if not jump on bike without having to stop. Bike
Comments: Awsome to ride on my new bike in a race!!! Felt great, would be even better with aerobars. Was pretty tired after swim so didn't hammer the entire time, tried to save a little for the run. What would you do differently?: Train more! Get aerobars. Need to get comfortable in a specific gear and stop switching around. Transition 2
Comments: While riding, tried to ride w/ feet on top of shoes, but one of my feet got caught. Had to stop at the transition and take foot out, wasted at least 20 sec or so. Other than that, transition was pretty decent. What would you do differently?: Practice jumping off moving bike and start taking feet out of shoes earlier before transition. Run
Comments: CRAMPS in both calfs!!! Started right after transition, lasted for almost the first half mile. Felt like I was dying, but after water station at 1 mile, started to get into a rhythm. Another racer started running with me, which kept me from overdoing it. What would you do differently?: Train more, especially with long runs after biking. Post race
Warm down: Stretched a little, but should have done more. Basically, went straight for the food. Calves were very tight the rest of the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Calf cramps after biking! Transitions. Event comments: Overall I was happy with my performance for only 2 weeks of serious training before the race. However, I would like to get better on the run after the bike as I know that I could do much better. Have to work on strenghtening my calf muscles. After getting my equipment placed in the transition area, went for a quick <100 yard swim to get acclimated with the water. Tried to stretch as much as possible, especially my shoulders and arms.
