none
Swim
  • 30m 52s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

good swim, wanted to break 30, but was happy with this...course seemed a little long
What would you do differently?:

not lose the front group when we over-take the waves that started ahead
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

not bad...had to stick a water bottle in the back of my wet tri jersey, so that took a while
Bike
  • 2h 49m 56s
  • 58 miles
  • 20.48 mile/hr
Comments:

first race with the new bike...simply amazing. the 5000+ vert that we gained in the first 2/3 of the course kinda sucked, but i didn't really have any issues. i had to keep telling myself to take it easy, esp. on the decent..still had to run 13.1

nutrition:water and one bottle of my new super secret favorite supplement!
What would you do differently?:

not much, i was hoping to break 3
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

aside from almost getting roundhouse kicked by some duathlete it was A-ok
Run
  • 1h 51m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

it was hotter than hell on miles 8-13, luckily i ran with a hat and kept stickin ice cups under it, that really saved me

also, i ate a bag of energy beans, those things were great, about every 5 miles or so i had about three. perfect balance of sugar and water
What would you do differently?:

not much, i kept a solid sub8 pace for 8-9 miles, then just sucked it up on the last 5k, almost 10 min miles on that last bit
Post race
Warm down:

i was really shocked how little i had to eat, 1/2 a clif bar, 3 shot blocks and a bag of jelly beans on the run

Event comments:

no post race dinner (-), crappy band(-), everyone got a medal(+), but the tshirts were just plain cotton(-), where are the tech shirts?!

for my 1st HIM i am really happy. the bike could have been better, but i was really just trying to complete this race and not actually 'race' it.

but 3rd in AG was a surprise, and ill take it!
