![]() Swim
Comments: ARRRR!!! Swimming continues to be my achilles heel in triathlon. I wanted to start out to the side, which I did, but for some reason I just kept drifting further and further away from the pack, I probably ended up swimming 100m more than I had to. I didn't really feel like I got into a decent rhythm until the last 400m, but even then, my navigation wasn't the best. I didn't have anyone even close to me throughout the swim so there was no chance of drafting off anyone!! Oh, well, it's a work in progress;) What would you do differently?: Not start out as wide, maybe a better warm up, sight better. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: pretty good T-time considering that my wetsuit got stuck around my timing chip and I had to sit down to take it off. Decided to go sockless for the bike which saved some time. What would you do differently?: work on taking suit off faster. ![]() Bike
Comments: see above What would you do differently?: nothing ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I think this is my best T-2 time ever, wouldn't change much, found my spot on the rack right away and changed quickly into my shoes. I'm still not too comfortable at taking my shoes off while on the bike so I did the quick switch after I racked it. I also took the time to put socks on so I didn't get any blisters. What would you do differently?: Practice taking shoes off while on bike, maybe get some elastic laces so I don't have to tie up my running shoes. ![]() Run
Comments: Felt great on the run, one of my best times ever! At the start my legs were a little heavy from the bike but after about 2K I got into a good rhythm and was able to keep it up. I passed quite a few people on the run which was tough because there wasn't much room between incoming and outgoing runners on the narrow course. I drank enough on the bike so I didn't need to grab anything from the aid station. The last 1.5-2K I had enough left to really push myself to the end while still feeling pretty strong. What would you do differently?: nothing ![]() Post race
Warm down: grabbed some water at the finish line and went over to a tree to do some stretching and re-hydrating. What limited your ability to perform faster: SWIMMING!!! It's definitely better than last year and the year before, but I need to work on my speed and sighting. Event comments: good overall race, had fun and would do it again. On a side note, our Tri club was volunteering at the aid stations and at registration/body marking for the day so I stayed around after and helped out with the try-a-tri. It was kind of funny seeing some of the first timers out there, asking us some of the same questions I was asking a few years ago when I did my first try-a-tri, oh the memories!! Woke up nice and early, ate breaky, went to Timmy's and grabbed a coffee (a must for me in the morning!) I got to the site early, set up stuff in transition and had a walk around the site to familiarize myself with the area.
Once I went through registration and got organized in transition I went for a 2K jog around the park, did some stretching. When I got back I ate my banana and then put my wetsuit on, headed down to the lake for a swim warm up, approx. 400m.
