Swim
Comments: I definitely underestmated myself when I gave my swim time at registration. My plan was to go out easy and just cruise through the swim without much effort and conserve energy. I mean, you can't win a race flying through a 300m pool smim right? I stuck to my plan and cruised nice and easy for the first 50m but I started to catch people in front of me. Passing was difficult due to people not swimming towards the outsides of the lane, which didn't leave much room to pass in the center. I ended up just giving up on passing people after passing three in front of me. It wasn't worth the hassle. I felt good that I executed and stuck to my plan, though. What would you do differently?: Give a faster swim time at registration. Transition 1
Comments: Good, quick transition. Felt fresh after the short swim and was excited to get to my strongest leg. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: The bike has come to be my strongest and favorite part of triathlon. I'm still very very green put I enjoy going fast and am able to hammer out a pretty good pace. Nothing different today. The course was awesome, fast, smooth, and straight. I stayed in my target cadence range for the most part and felt good throughout the leg. I think my effort was just right; not to much, not to little. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: No cramps this time! I had a little trouble getting my socks on, but no biggy. Then I started running out of transition in the wrong direction, but a volunteered corrected me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My calfs felt like lead and I felt kind of gassed coming out of T2. I was a bit concerned with how I felt, and was hoping that I wouldn't feel that way for the whole run. After abotu 3/4 of a mile of so and really started to loosen up and get into a rhythm. I usually positive split my runs, but I went into this one wanting to negative split and finish strong over the last 1.5. I was able to that, and felt very very strong for the last half of the run course. What would you do differently?: I think I left too much out there on the run, which is very uncharachteristic of me. I'm capable of running much faster 5k's than 22 like I did today, and I think that I could have pushed much harder the second half of the run, but felt that I didn't need to because I was running so strongly. I though for sure that I had run sub 7 min pace, but I guess not. Next time, I'll try and negative split again, but I'll leave it all out there. Post race
Warm down: Walked off the run for a second and enjoyed that ice cold towel! That felt soooooo good! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of effort on the run. Event comments: I had a great time and will definitely do this one again next year! Not a bad result for my 2nd race ever! Last updated: 2009-06-19 12:00 AM
