Pre-race routine:

Drove to Chatfield and drank some water on the way.
Event warmup:

Mile run with some pick ups, swim about 150 yards, set up transition. Talked to Stacie, Wright, and Ryan. As usual, my Pro friend Bucky shows up 5 minutes before race start.
Swim
  • 27m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

First loop was good. I bit of bumping with another guy that I followed the whole race but nothing bad. About half way through the second loop my right side was cramping or I had too much air in my stomach, but I Had to slow down because it was hard to breathe. Stayed with my friend Wright for almost the whole swim and another guy named Micheal, (who I met after the race), the whole way. I drafted them and they drafted me. It was cool, we were kind of by ourselves the whole raec.
What would you do differently?:

Not swollow so much air.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

I came out of transition looking at my friend Wright who was ahead of me putting on his shoes and I forgot to start taking off my cap and goggles. So I pull it off and it won't come. It is sucktioned to my head. Finally got it off and forgot to unzip the suit on the way up. So I get it unziped and the suit sticks on my legs. Finally get it off watching my friend take off. Into the shoes and I carry my number in my hand today because I forgot my race belt. Worst T1 ever.
What would you do differently?:

Think, dumb ass.
Run
  • 21m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I started strong and felt good. Caught my friend wright before the first mile. went down the hill with another guy just pacing me on my heels. Get to the turn around and grab a quick sip of water. My pacer quickly picks up the pace and goes by me. Ilet him go. I get to the top of the rise and my left side right under my ribs starts to cramp. I slow down, maybe I am anerobic and that is causing it. I get to the top of the hill and it has crippled me to a walk. Damn, I now need to stop, I can't catch my breath. I have never stopped in all of my races. I start to walk again to test it, then jog, stop again and lean over to catch my bresth. My friend Wright now catches up and yells "come on Dills". I being competive jog behind him. I am now feeling better and pass him and say lets catch these 3 ahead of us. I get my pace back and catch them all. Wright cannot keep up. I then have a sprint finish withh another guy and keep him at bay. I meet him at the end (Micheal was his name). We chatted for a while. Not my best race, No it was my worst race ever! Did I have fun, Hell yes.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know?
