Swim
Comments: The swim course was changed from last year which was nice since that course was overgrown with weeds. However last years course was a straight swim from one shore to another which meant we spread out the further we went along. This year since it went to a bouy first I felt like I was in a washing machine the entire time. We never really spread out and it was hard to get around people. What would you do differently?: Wear a wet suit. Last year they didn't allow wetsuits. This year they didn't enforce that. Half the field didn't have suits this year (including myself) so naturally we finished behind the majority of suited racers. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. I made sure before the race to determine my path to my bike from the beach. What would you do differently?: all went well Bike
Comments: This was a tough 8 miles. I certainly tried to push it very hard and I was able to compete with a group of 4 other riders that matched my strength level.I found myself getting pretty spent at the top of some of the hills coming back. What would you do differently?: Train more on hilly terrain before doing this race next year. Transition 2
Comments: Not great. Couldn't find my rack. Lost a lot of time. What would you do differently?: Note to self....from now on before the race walk the route from the bike entry into the transition to your rack. Run
Comments: My weakest even as always. The course was more rolling than I remembered from last year (same route, just bad memory). Shortly after starting the run I could feel a cramp coming on so had to take a break and walk up the large first hill (which I did remember from last year). The rest of the race was slow and hot for me. Got as much liquid as I could. The last mile felt better and was able to pass some people and actually sprint toward the end. What would you do differently?: Keep working on having something left for the run. High altitude and horrible nights sleep in the cabin could have also contributed to being slow. Try again next year. Post race
Warm down: Went back in the water and swam around to cool off. What limited your ability to perform faster: My DNA Event comments: This is my second time at the Rocky Gap tri and I have enjoyed both. The setting is beautiful and the weather was great. My only negative comment would be that the food and drinks afterward were probably the worst at any tri Ive been too. Last year they had a decent choice this year left you saying "is that it?" Last updated: 2009-06-21 12:00 AM
