Comments: Start kind of caught us all off guard, wasnt really prepared. First triathlon so swimming with the other athletes proved challenging. I think next time I will try to start on outside to avoid the pack...after last turn, it went better. What would you do differently?: Train more on swimming, I think this is where I can improve to get stronger start to race. Again, start on outside to avoid the pack and settle down quicker to get in good swimming form/pace. Transition 1
Comments: Sat down in T1 to get socks on and put on shirt...kind of disoriented after brutal swim...wasnt a smooth transition What would you do differently?: Practice transition prior to race. Go without socks in sprint distances to save time. Bike
Comments: Chain fell off about 100 yards into bike while shifting, had to stop and get chain back on...thankfully it didnt take long. What would you do differently?: Ride harder during first portion of bike. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Utilize water station and probably get a gel pack down. I will probably already have running shoes tied and just slip on. Run
Comments: Run felt good...sprinted last 200 yds with woman who was attempting to pass...she passed me with 10 yards to go, we congratulated eachother. What would you do differently?: hydrate more during run and utilize a gel shot or block prior to run. Need to work on running as well, can improve in all areas. Post race
Warm down: Drank a bottle of water and G2...stomache didnt feel like it could hold down a bagel or banana. Chatted with other racers and friends and family who came to watch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Didnt really know what to expect since this was my first time competing in triathlon. I need to improve in all phases and practice transitions. I havent even watched a triathlon so I am going to try to catch one before my next race to see how others set up and execute transitions. Event comments: I cant really comment on the race since this was my first competing in and or watching. Woke up around 5:45, ate power bar and banana. Took quick shower and double checked items that I had packed for race. Drank cup of coffee and sipped on bottle of water. Hydrated alot all last week and didnt want to overdue it.
Stretched and jogged about a mile right before swim to get warmed up. Next time I will arrive earlier so that I can do a run-through on T1...could have shaved minutes off of my time.
