Swim
Comments: Probably the toughest swim I've done. This was my first race that started on the shore. There was a little bit of surf to get past. Once I was past the first buoy and turned, I had some problems staying on course because of the current. While I was passing buoy 3 and 4, I heard whistles and wasn't sure if there was lightening and they wanted us to stop or if there was a problem. My family told me later that it was the lifeguards towing people back to the shore. What would you do differently?: Get my head in the water and swim more efficiently. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: I'm still working on getting the wetsuit off efficiently and getting my bike shoes on quickly while my feet are wet and sandy. Bike
Comments: The course was a nice, flat ride up and down the highway accessing Assateague Island Beach. There were 2 or 3 small side streets that circled around and brought you back to the main road. They were a nice distraction and offered a great view of the bay side of Assateague. Transition 2
Comments: I'm pleased with me T2 time. Run
Comments: I am pleased that I ran the entire course. I was concerned that I would be really tired after doing the 5 mile boardwalk run on Saturday. While my pace was pretty slow, I was able to run the entire course. What would you do differently?: Push myself harder to pick up the pace on the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked about a quarter mile. What limited your ability to perform faster: I should have pushed myself harder on the run. I fell into a pace with another runner and should have pushed to run ahead. Event comments: I loved this race!! There was a challenging swim, a nice flat bike course and a run course that ran through the Assateague camping site. There was a snack bar that was open early so friends/family could grab something to eat. The beach is beautiful. The course is spectator friendly. The run out was along a paved path where volunteers or the campers had written encouraging messages in chalk all the way down the first mile. The run was around the campground, which included ponies wandering around the course and at times, navigating around ponies. Last updated: 2009-06-22 12:00 AM

Got set up in transition. Spots were not assigned. I got a pretty good spot in the middle. There was enough space for each person to lay their stuff out comfortably.
The swim course was set up so that you walked down the beach to the start and then swam down. Got into the water for a few minutes before the race to get used to the water. Temperature wasn't bad.
