Event warmup:

super hot day, didn't waste too much energy getting ready, rode bike a little to make sure it was ready and in right gear, swam a fifty about half hour before start.

I swam straight past first bouy by rough 30 to 50 yards before I realized what I had done. by the time I got back to the course, I was behind a super slow group of people swimming 5 abreast. so I just swam there pace until an opening showed itself and I could get through. bad swim for me. roughly 2 minutes slower than what I wanted to be.

crazy long transition, had at least a 1/4 mile run from water to transition area, all over gravel. had to put shoes on to run to my bike and take shoes back off. otherwise good transition for me.

had a super bike leg, guessing due to my slower than average swim, I had plenty to burn on the bike. I was passing people like crazy and feeling great on the bike. Best bike speed to date in any triathlon I have done.

this was the first edition of this race and they did not start until 9:30, by the time the run came around it was super hot and very humid out. ran pretty well considering I tend to destruct in that much heat.
What would you do differently?:

tried to hang with the guy who caught me at the 2 mile marker. I think I could have hung with him.
