Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45, and ate leftover pizza with a glass of milk. Worry if Murphy was going to strike today or not.
Event warmup:

Still worried about Murphy, so a little pacing back and forth with a little warm up swim.
Swim
  • 16h 50m 10s
  • 820 yards
  • 2h 03m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Strong start in freestyle with a lot of contact during strokes. This was expected. Very poor underwater visability making drafting, well... follow the bubbles!
What would you do differently?:

Start at the front of the wave and pour on the speed a little more. I felt very strong going into T1.
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

This is too funny to keep to myself! Yes, I watched the setting up the transition area video here on this site - great tips, by the way! I did the rubber band the bike shoes to the bike trick and everything was going to plan just as in the video. I had a great transition time in and out, running with my bike, and the jump mount was flawless! Just remember one thing when setting up transition, make sure the correct shoe is clipped on the correct pedal! Yes, I had a good laugh too.
What would you do differently?:

Double check everything before leaving the transition area. What is the saying... measure twice, cut once!
Bike
  • 54h 06m 30s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 0.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Smooth pace all the way through the bike course. Two water bottles were empty arriving back to T2. I passed a few people, and was passed by a few people. Very fast people!
What would you do differently?:

Push myself a little harder. I felt very strong still going into T2, and the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Almost three minutes? How did that happen?
What would you do differently?:

Practice more!
Run
  • 30h 30m 60s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 9h 50m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

I was right on my training pace, 10 minute mile.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace man! You are in the race, right?
Post race
Warm down:

None! I know, I know.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Since this was my first triathlon ever I was worried about burning out too fast, so I held back to make sure I had something left in the tank for the finish. After finishing I honestly thought i could have done the whole race all over again. I felt fantastic!

Event comments:

My ratings may be different than yours only because I have never had an experience like this in my life, so I judged this race as AWESOME!
