Pre-race routine:

Drank a TON of fluids on Friday as I knew it was going to be a hot one. Only problem is that I woke up 6 times to pee Friday night, and twice more Josh woke me up. Once I got up for good at 4:30 AM, I ate toast w/ PB, drank some GU20 and hit the john. Sipped on the drink all the way to HC. Stopped drinking 1 hour prior, then had a GU at 6:40 with a few sips of water. Took some Enduraltyes Friday night, Saturday AM also.
Event warmup:

Set up T1 along side all of the carbon bikes with full discs wheels. Took the Felt out for a mile or two and made sure everything was working. Ran about a mile and found a porta potty off in the distance, emptied what was left in me. Headed towards the water at 6:40 and got hung up with my folks, Cammie, and Bill on the way down. Swam about 400 yards. Pretty choppy out there.

Comments:

My main concern was not to panic, for some reason I did last year, and that has stuck in my mind. It helped it ton by not sprinting and doing high knees along with powerful dolphin dives. I just found some space, started catch up drills, and worked into a decent groove. I put some Glide on my shoulder and a band aid as the suit was digging in the last two OW swims. It helped, no digging at all.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe sight a little better, but I thought I did a decent job. Waves were pretty high, so I just flat out couldn't see the buoys at times. Going in to the finish I was blinded by the sun, maybe I need new goggles.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Not bad. Got a little hung up with the suit and I tipped my bike a little losing some fluids from the Aero Drink. Got my shoe in the pedal on the second try.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike

Comments:

I was pretty happy with 21 MPH, it's the best I've ever done at this distance. Still need to improve if I ever want to hang with the big boys.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing it hard. Especially on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

talked to Jeff and Kendra during T2 and saw my folks on the way out of T2. I love running, so I was jacked to get it started. Grabbed the Fuel Belt but took 2 bottles out. Carried the GU flask for 13.1 friggin miles.
What would you do differently?:

Nto bring the GU Flask, just bring some GU
Run
  • 1h 31m 53s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Stomach cramp at mile 3 scared the crap out of me, but luckily it went away in no time at all. Kept the Enduralytes going every 30-45 minutes, even dropped one and stopped to dig through a leaf pile to find it.
What would you do differently?:

Run fast to get under 1.30
Post race
Warm down:

massage tent
two plates of fruit/carbs
talked to Jeff and Rob
talked to my folks and Brad's folks

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hot on the run

Event comments:

water stations were a little bunched up, but very much appreciated when I got to them. Great race for me, a 10 minute PR. Hope to build off of that for Door County and finally IMWI~

Wind: Some with gusts
Course: Westerly wind, felt like it was mostly helping, but when we were into the wind it was a bear. Got passed by about 15 guys overall and only passed 2, unlucky for me. I went back and forth with one guy about 9 times, finally dropped him, then he catches me on the run and tells me what a great runner he is, so I dropped him again, that felt good.
