Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30. Had breakfast and showered. Arrived in Sylvania at 5:40. Picked up packet and set up transition. I felt real good about this race. I just knew I was going to do better in the swim than at Hawk Island.(Boy was I wrong)
Event warmup:

Got in the water and just got wet. Talked to a few people and it was time to start.
Swim
  • 17m 28s
  • 400 meters
  • 04m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

I almost bailed but, I didn't. I stopped 2 times and rested on a kayak and chatted with the very nice fellow that followed me and made sure I made it out of the water. Wish I knew his name. I would send him a thank you card.
What would you do differently?:

Get over my fear of OWS.
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

I took my husbands advice and didn't tidy up my transition area. Much better than my first race. My feet were covered with sand so I just brushed them off and went sockless on the bike, that worked just fine for me.
What would you do differently?:

Just do it faster.
Bike
  • 42m 7s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

I loved this part of the race. It was my best ride to date. I really tried to make up for that hellish nightmare of a swim. I felt I did very well.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more and remember to have a gu.
Transition 2
  • 02m 34s
Run
  • 33m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Should have drank more on the bike and had a gu. I was starting to feel a little crappy at mile 2. I thought I missed the water at mile 1 but, I don't think there was any there?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a little then changed clothes and found the beer truck:) Talked with Trish and waited for Steve to come in from the OLY distance.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

All the energy I wasted on the swim. I was exhausted after the swim.

Event comments:

I will get over my fear of OWS and be back next year to do the OLY with TrisM:) This was a very well run event. Lots of beer and plenty of food post race.

Age Group: 11/11
Overall: 299/304
Performance: Bad
Suit:
Course: Horseshoe. Didn't look bad at all. I was calm and started out feeling real good, then about 25m in I started to feel panicky and totally ruined my swim. I'm not sure what happens when I get in water over my head. I felt that I had never swam before, not having the wet suit on added to my panic.
