Swim
Comments: Had a much better start to the swim than the last two races. Couldn't find people that I could draft off of though. I did draft fo awhile in the middle of the course. I had one point about in the middle of the course right after I rounded a bouy that I didn't sight for a few strokes and ended up going heading almost 90 degrees off course. I felt good on the swim, much better than the time shows, but I didn't use much energy so I had a lot left for the bike and run. What would you do differently?: Make sure to keep sighting, even if I am confident I am heading in the right direction. Probably should have been still a bit more aggressive at the start in hopes of finding someone to draft off of. Transition 1
Comments: My helmet strap on the back had gotten pulled as tight as it could go and then when I was trying to fix it I pulled it apart. Then I decided I wanted my other sunglasses because it was overcast which i had to pull out of my glasses case. While I was running out of transition the shot bloks I had taped to my bars fell off and I had to stop and go back for them. Considering all that went wrong I am happy with my time for T1, but I need to make sure those things to happen again. I did good with jumping on, getting up to speed and putting my shoes on. It helped a lot that the start of the bike was down hill. I did fuss with my shoes a little more than I would have liked, but I was going 20mph when I was doing it, so I am not too worried about it. What would you do differently?: Do a run through of my transistion in the morning to make sure everything is working properly. Check the clouds and set anouther pair of glasses out incase I need them and secure my shot bloks better or leave them out to stick in a pocket. Bike
Comments: Felt good on most of the bike, did well on the first half which was uphill. Although I got passed by a lot of tri bikes on the flat, rolling hill parts. About 3 miles from the end my stomach started to feel bad, I probably should have spread my eating out a bit and had more towards the start of the bike, although i didn't do too bad with it. Turning onto the last street a CO2 cartrige fell out and I had to go back to get it. Also at some point I lost my multi tool :( What would you do differently?: Make sure to zip up my little bag. At a little more early in the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Went well and smoothly, but looking at other peoples times I should be able to cut a bit of time out here with a little practice. What would you do differently?: Practice this transition a little more. Run
Comments: Was really struggling during the run, I was hoping to go under 45, but I am happy with my time. The runners world calculator predicted 45:59 based on my time at the longmont tri, so I was right on target. I got water at every station, had a sip and then poured the rest on me, seemed to work well, altough if I had a gatorade at the start of the run it probably would have benefited me, especially after the race. I really wanted to run faster and got frustrated with my running a few times which didn't help, but overall I stayed fairly positive. I raced a guy right at the end I don't think I would have beat him anyways but I thought the finish was actually 30 feet infront of where it was and started slowing down when I got there rather than the actual finish. What would you do differently?: Have had a little bit of gatorade at the start of the run. Take the CO2 cartridge out of my tri suit before the run. Try not to get frustrated. Post race
Warm down: Took my stuff back to my car and jogged a little bit, I could barely move by that point though so I didn't do much. What limited your ability to perform faster: Based on how much I locked up at the end of the race I think more regular stretching would be very beneficial. I was pretty good about it up to nationals but have done much at all since. The little mistakes added up and cost me some time, I will have to work on fixing those. I should probably also do some work on my bike on rolling hills, I slowed down a lot more than I should have on them. Event comments: Fun race and I look forward to doing it again next year. Got up at 4:30. Had a waffle with butter, peanut butter and syrup. And a few frosted mini wheats. Changed into my tri suit and headed out.
Jogged down to the swim and back up, did a few easy strides.
