Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 58/70
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal with banana and tea 2 hours before. 1/4 P and J 30 minutes before race.
Event warmup:

Got in water 10 minutes before and acclimated to cold water (59 deg F)
Swim
  • 44m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Hardest part for me. First open water swim ever. Couldn't swim in straight line, couldn't breath on both sides. took 1/3 of mile to get into my zone. just glad to have made it!!
What would you do differently?:

More open water swims to practice navigation and breathing.
Transition 1
  • 08m 58s
Comments:

hands and feet were numb making getting socks and shoes on difficult.
What would you do differently?:

practice this transition more in training.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 37s
  • 27.34 miles
  • 16.63 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good on the bike. could have pushed harder, but first tri, wasn't sure how much to hold back to make it through the run afterwards. Passed a lot of people, was not passed at all, so feel good about that.
What would you do differently?:

Go for it second half of bike course
Transition 2
  • 05m 19s
Comments:

changed into running shorts which took some time, but was definately more comfortable. otherwise T2 wasn't too bad for first time.
What would you do differently?:

run more in tri shorts to get comfortable with not changing into running shorts at T2
Run
  • 1h 08m 34s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Not bad considering I am not much of a runner and have done 10K races at this pace (without swimming and biking) beforehand. Had to walk up a few hills to catch my breath and stretch calves a bit.
What would you do differently?:

More running training, including more hills and intervals.
Post race
Warm down:

none - oops!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

minimal training time.

Event comments:

Excellent venue!! Great first tri experience.
