Swim
Comments: Came out really fast. 200m in I was sucking wind hard. Had to do a little bit of breaststroke to bring my HR back to a reasonable level. Got a "need a rest?" from the kayak - "NO THANKS!" Was fine after that kick in the pants. What would you do differently?: Try to settle into my own pace right away. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty smooth overall, but I did put one sock on before realized I was still wearing my suit! Suit came off right over it - no big deal. What would you do differently?: Work on my PEMDAS. Bike
Comments: The bike was the portion I practiced the least and I think it showed a bit. My legs and butt were screaming. On top of that, it took a while for my heartrate to come down after the swim. What would you do differently?: Spend more time practicing in the aero. I only did one short ride with the bars before the race and it changed where my muscles fatigued. Also, I dropped one of my waterbottles 2 miles in. Dumba$$. Maybe one of those fancy ones that mounts on the bars next time. Transition 2
Comments: Run
Comments: Completely shot. The first few steps felt awkward, which quickly faded to painful. Had a GU on the way out, another on the way back, which was probably unnecessary. I walked through the water stations, just so the fluids would get into my body instead of on it. Also had to pull over to the side for about 10 seconds to stretch my back out around mile 2. That was something I've had issues with for the past few years, but seemed to go away with my training. Not happy that my back pain returned. What would you do differently?: Incorporate more core training in my plan. Less GU between the fingers. More cowbell. Post race
Warm down: Lay on the grass and stretch. Mostly lay. Then some ice cream. I was really happy to see my time when it got posted. I thought my run was going to be much slower. Event comments: I had been casually running and biking, but really I did less than two solid months of training - I can't complain about this result. The course was great and so were the volunteers. I really enjoyed the experience and I'm hoping that I can get my girlfriend to do one with me next summer, although it was nice seeing her along the course : ) Last updated: 2009-06-26 12:00 AM

First tri, so not much of a "routine" per se. Got there really early and set up my transition area. Walked the entry/exits of the different segments. Realized my bike was in the wrong gear so went for a quick spin to get that dialed in. Just tried to keep busy/calm mostly.
