Age Group Rank = 42/63
Pre-race routine:

Got up kinda early, bought pancakes at McDonalds on the way to the race - bad idea, MickyD's pancakes apparently give me heartburn, even with no butter/syrup, and I only ate 1.
Event warmup:

Warm up? Not really, I was just doing this for my Tri Club, as this was a MERCRS points race.
Swim
  • 11m 40s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

About 1/2 freestyle, 1/2 breaststroke. Just nice and easy. My best time for this course is 7:40. Remember, I was just doing this for MERCRS points for my tri team.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I had alot of fun out there. It's kind of wierd - I was not worried about anything other than finishing for points, so I was not stressing over any aspect of the swim or the rest of the race, and I actually had a ton of fun.

Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Had an issue getting into the pedals - I had not practiced the flying leap in quite a while, and it really slowed me down getting through the bike out chute.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the flying leap. Practice the order, and do visualation the morning of.
Bike
  • 31m
  • 10 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was littered with storm debris from the night before. A tree had to be chainsawed before the race could start, as it was across the road on the bike course. With all the leaves, twigs, crap on the roads, alot of people had crashes. There was even areas that were completely covered with water, right after a steep downhill hairpin that gave you about 15 yards to see and slow down for.
What would you do differently?:

I had a blast on the course. I liked the new course layout, and I hope they keep the bike course. As it was a TT start swim, and I signed up the evening before the race, I was basically last in the water. I passed a ton of people in the water, and a ton more on the bike course. I was just having fun. I don't know that I'd do much different. Hydration seemed fine, I was planning on eating a Gu on the bike, but I never felt I needed it. Basically, nothing different, as I said, I was having fun.

Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

This was very slow for me. I don't know why it took so long, it sure didn't feel like it.
What would you do differently?:

Apparently move quicker. I don't think there was much efficiency I lost, but apparently I did.
Run
  • 37m 5s
  • 3 miles
  • 12m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow, Slow, Slow. I even walked part of the run. I was just out to have fun and get points for the team. I did have fun, got to see some friends as they passed me on the run (which means I passed them on the swim or bike).

It was all about fun.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. I was having fun. I was trying to not push hard, as this was a completely unplanned race, and I didn't want to hurt myself.

Post race
Warm down:

Not much, drank a bit of water, ate a few bannanas, and then went to my Tri Club's party, ate a brat and drank a beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was all mental. I was not planning on doing anything but having fun, sort of a shake down to see how I'd feel.

Event comments:

Tuxedo brothers always has a great race, this is no exception. I hated the TT start - you did not know who you were racing against - if I was really racing, I'd probably not be happy with that. I loved the new course changes, which were necessated by construction on the old bike course - I hope they keep these changes.
