Comments:

Started out fast...maybe a touch too fast, but I think that if there had not been so much confusion later on (strings and the entire field going the wrong turn), I would have probably been able to focus a bit better...the confusion threw me off a bit, and caused me some mental fatigue...interesting how up to that point, I was focusing well on my tempo...after that, it became a struggle. But I have to be happy with my time, I think it shows that I can run pretty well when I still have my legs (before biking).
What would you do differently?:

Not lose focus over things that are happening on the course. Up to that point (the route confusion, and the strings issue), I was in cruising mode, and perfectly monitoring my tempo --had I stayed that way, I think that I might have finished up 15-30 seconds faster.

Comments:

I had a good strong bike leg, as usual. Maybe not feeling entirely my best, but I never lost focus for what turned out to be 26+ km, according to post-race reports. Rode smart. Seemed sometimes like there was a headwind in both directions. I smartly dropped gears after the second of 5 laps, and concentrated on good leg turnover..this gave me a 2nd wind on the 3rd and 4th laps....rode pretty strong, if not fast.

Comments:

Again, went at it with survival shuffle, and on the last 1.25 km, was running from water station to water station. But this time, did not "kill" myself at the end. Kept my wits about me, and finished up well, without pushing 100%. Was in "safe" mode. Not a bad run, I think the improvement is coming on this 2nd leg, albeit slowly. I used a cap on my head for this leg, which was SMART to do...poured water on my head, and then put cap on to protect from sun...better than without it, even if my head was covered...it was cooler. Made good use of water station...can never get too much water!!!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, my approach to this second leg was appropriate.

Event comments:

After doing the math on the actual distance, my times, and extrapolating to what should have been the actual race distance, (and using 5 minutes in transitions as a guess), I think that I ran in the ballpark of 2:02 for the expected distance, which was within my goal time of 2:05!..happy with the progress. Next time I do this, goal is to go under 2:00. I expect to do it with the next 3 months of training. Dont need to focus on running, instead, better biking, a few more changes in technology, and LOWER WEIGHT will get me there. When this race runs again, I want to be a the start weighing 164 pounds.
