Swim
Comments: The surf was intense and made it extremely difficult to get to the first buoy, especially on the 2nd wave of the swim. I felt great on the first run and had zero problems with sighting, breathing, or sickness. Found another few swimmers and kept in between them to help me stay on track. The 2nd wave was much trickier though because the surf was more intense and I was fatigued. Took me way too long to get to the first buoy and I kept breathing when waves were crashing in. Started feeling a little sick at that point, but overall never felt that bad. What would you do differently?: Practice dealing with waves and learning how to take advantage of the current. I need to do some bricks as well. Transition 1
Comments: T1/T2 were fairly simple and I was pretty fast. Passed a few people during each transition and was able to run most of the way. What would you do differently?: Bring a bucket or tray to put my stuff in to keep it off the sand. Bike
Comments: I took a gu midway through the bike and it helped me mainntain an edge for the 2nd lap. I felt really good on the bike and the course was very easy to ride. I could feel where a new bike with a Tri setup might have helped. What would you do differently?: Need some tri shoes and some race tires. Transition 2
Comments: No problems here...although I did get mixed up on which way to go. Only cost me a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Run the right way. Run
Comments: Legs were tough to move during first leg. Lost some time getting the sand off my feet. Overall felt pretty solid and never ran out of gas. What would you do differently?: Push it harder in both sections. Although I was tired, I probably could have given more. Post race
Warm down: Easy dip in the ocean and a bunch of water, bananas, and oranges. What limited your ability to perform faster: Legs wouldn't move well after swim and bike. Need more bricks. Event comments: Race was OK, although the start wasn't done very professionally. Not really a fan of Setup Events, but dont' have much of a choice. Post-race food was good and course was great, but the director seemed like an ass and the volunteers didn't really know how to help you find T zones or where to go. Still, would definitely do it again. I felt great this race and was happy to have something to build on. Last updated: 2009-06-28 12:00 AM

Had a bagel with PB and some Heed before we made the drive. This was about 3 hours prior to the race. Once I got there, I had a berry Gu without caffeine, which helped me manage the swim much better since last time the 2x caffeine made me sick.
Butt kicks, a 5 minute swim in the surf, and a short bike ride.
