Swim
Comments: First couple hundred yards was pretty congested so I had to tarzan swim but eventually it cleared up a little. What would you do differently?: Swim in a straight line better. Transition 1
Comments: There's wading pools to get the sand off your feet but otherwise it's a pretty simple transition. There's a lot of rack space so it's not crammed. What would you do differently?: Gotten my shoes on faster. Bike
Comments: There were lots of marshalls and the directions were clear but the road surface was terrible at times, lots of potholes and rough road. What would you do differently?: I had my bike seat about 2 inches too low by accident so that was a disaster for me - I was probably getting 80% efficiency and it made the hills that much worse. I had to mash the entire way. Probably cost me 7 minutes. Transition 2
Comments: You have to make a hairpin turn to the dismount area. I took my feet out too soon and had to one legged clunk it home for about 30 yards with my shoes bouncing off the ground. Didn't hurt me too much but wasn't particularly impressive. What would you do differently?: Control my shoes as I took them off. Run
Comments: Ran well. It's my strength. Post race
Warm down: They had giant bags of ice to put on your body which was amazing. Helped to delay DOMS and also for my recovering patellar tendinitis. What limited your ability to perform faster: My bike ride was an unmitigated disaster. I did the other 4 things well. Event comments: They could be a lot more clear about the transitions. I also think they lied about how far apart they are. Also there are no signs for parking or for the race and it was easy to get lost. Surprised at how small the field was but in general a good race. I also don't think there were pictures taken. Last updated: 2009-06-28 12:00 AM

Woke at 3:30, ate oatmeal, did some business then left. It's a two-transition race so I left everything at the 2nd transition area and just brought what I needed to stage 1 - wetsuit, goggles, swimcap.
Stretched, then swam briefly, it was freezing.
