Pre-race routine:

Could not get to sleep last night - woke at 5:45 AM, Coffee, cereal and off I went - arrived with plenty of time got setup
Event warmup:

Tossed on suit and warmed up with about a 400yd swim - should have gone for a run instead I think.
Swim
  • 29m 32s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a rough start trying to find my groove. By the first buoy had a solid pace but lost pack to draft behind. tried to kick very little to save my legs for the run - perhaps that is why I was off my pace. Bilateral the whole time - would have thought I would have been a few minutes faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - just increase the pace in the first half - good neg split but falling behind main group hurt with lack of drafting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

Getting good at the T1
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 10m 13s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 21.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Clearly the bike is my strong suit. I felt I crushed the course and left everything I had on the course. I would not change a thing. For my first year competing I am pleased to be in in top 20%. Fitness is clearly what I need to focus on over the Fall and Winter to prepare for next season.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Everything went well but got hung up with Yankz - other than this it was perfect. Prob lost 30 sec screwing around with Yankz
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting in shoes with Yankz - had then set too tight
Run
  • 1h 02m 55s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Clearly the extra lbs are holding me back and feeling it most on the run. Dealt with cramping the first two miles then got into an okay pace from mile 4 till the end (9ish).
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work with my coach to improve my running fitness. Focused on nutrition and have given up alcohol to try and drop the extra lbs. Need to shave off 30lbs and can't workou any more than I already am, so it comes down to diet.
Post race
Warm down:

drank lots of water, ate some fruit, stretched briefly and packed up to get home - looked for Cat and Rob but could not find them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The Run

Event comments:

So I set out with a goal of sub 3hrs for my first Oly and an optomistic goal of sub 2:30. Check on the first and missed the second. Slightly discouraged with the run perfromance and concerned going into Austin in 2 months, which is 2x this length.
