Swim
Comments: I did really well on this leg, although I was helped by the strong downstream current. I passed a bunch of people and got into my own space about 1/2 way down. Got neck chopped by a few errant backstrokers toward the end but not as much manhandling as last year. The waves and chop were pretty big, so I swallowed a good bit of the Schuylkill, but my breathing was good and I really found a rhythm. After rounding the last buouy and heading towards shore the strong current stopped helping, and it felt like I was hardly moving. I had to really kick it into high gear for the last few hundred yards, just to make it to the shore. Eventually I got there though! What would you do differently?: Not much, though I probably would have cut a closer path to shore had I known how bad the current was going to be. I was really tuckered out after the frantic last leg of the swim, but my performance was pretty good throughout despite not having a warmup. Transition 1
Comments: This was slower than usual, don't know why. I just felt like I was forgetting something, so maybe thats why it was slow. What would you do differently?: Eh, nothing really. Bike
Comments: I didn't do too well here. Dropped a chain on the first hill, but did better with my gears for the rest. I didn't have a big cycling base built up, though, and it shows. What would you do differently?: Ride more. Lots more. Transition 2
Comments: Another slow transition. No idea why it was taking me so long, the only thing I can think is that its such a long transition that I just couldn't move too fast to get out of it. What would you do differently?: Again, not much. Run
Comments: Oh boy. I just stink at running. Not that my lack of training helped. I ran the first few miles at a decent clip, but then once we ran that middle stretch on the grass, I was just in pain. I had to walk/run the rest, and was able to run the last mile or so, but I was not a happy camper. What would you do differently?: Again, train. Post race
Warm down: Sat, tried not to pass out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. This is the last time I do a race without training appropriately. It's just not fun. Next year I'm not sure if I'll do this race, I've done it a handful of times and it's hard to get excited to train for it since I'm so familiar with it. Overall my time increased 12 minutes from the previous year. That is the difference proper training makes! Event comments: Good race, the organization with bag pickup was better this year, and as always the post-race food was good. The road conditions seem to be getting worse though, potholes getting bigger and such. Last updated: 2009-06-29 12:00 AM

Woke up late, still trying to shake the tylenol pm out of my system. Water, bagel with butter and honey, then out the door. Got to the race sort of later than I liked, since I was in one of the first two waves, hurried into transition and set up my spot at the far end of the row since the rest was jam-packed, heard the announcement saying for the first few waves to get on the bus, and i hopped in line without finding Kurt. Got to the swim start and waited in the long lines for the portapotties, missed the swim warmup (not happy) and generally just dreaded the upcoming event.
None at all, well I rode my bike down to the transition but that's it. I wanted to do a swim warmup but missed the cutoff, so I just went with it. Treaded water for a little while before my wave start.
