Swim
Comments: 75 meters into the swim, everything was perfect. Time was good, and I felt very comfortable. Then the nausea hit, sudden and severe. Made it to wall and summoned marshall who allowed me to exit at that point, and later re-enter. In between I vomited the aforementioned coffee and Clif bar. What would you do differently?: Not be sick. Transition 1
Comments: Stomach was still a little queezy but the fresh air helped tremendously. Bike
Comments: RAce organizers did a good job on the bike course. The road were marked well and for most of the race we had our own lane. The last intersection was not guarded and I had to come to a complete stop at the red light as traffic was heavy at this point. But overall it was a fun and challenging bike course. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Run course was alittle confusing and resulted in some competitors being penalized and possibly DQed. Needed more race marshalls on the run course. The run course itself was and oustanding mix of hills, dirt, pavement, and flat. The final run to the finish was downhill on dirt to a grassy flat. I was slow but it was enjoyable considering how I had felt during the run. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Drink more towards the end of the bike segment. Post race
Warm down: Set Up had nearly instant race results so I walked around, had a bottle of water and checked the results. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sinus infection, ear infection, nausea caused by antibiotics and coffee. Trying to cope with this while on the road was limiting factor. Event comments: For those of us not accustomed to hills, this is an excellent introduction to vertical racing. I was a little under the weather but I still enjoyed the race and had a good time. I really appreciate the understanding marshall at the pool who allowed me to re-enter after being sick. I will do this race next year, God willing. Last updated: 2005-08-22 12:00 AM

Got up at 0445 and drove to race site. Nothing open so had to settle for a cup of coffee and a clif bar for nutrition, a choice I would later regret. Got to the site, found parking, set up transition, and socialized for a few minutes. Felt like crap, severely congested. Transition area was well lit and organized.
Used the warm up area of the pool. Felt better at this point. Pool water was cool and not heavily chlorinated. Walked around and stretched calf muscles and hamstrings.
