Age Group Rank = 27/43
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:40am. Showered. Ate a cliff bar, apple & banana on car ride to Staten Island. Also didn't judge how much my bike rack hung off the back of the car.... ran my bike into parked car behind me (DOOH!). Thankfully no damage.
Event warmup:

This was my first triathlon, so it took me a fair amount of time setting up my transition area. Didn't stretch much as i had a very sore back from over doing it the week prior. Ate GU before swim.
Swim
  • 08m 53s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim wasn't bad, although the water was very brown. I had been told by friends who previously did the Pancake the water cleanliness was horrible. I didn't think it was too bad.

Visibility was very low, and had a hard time swimming in a straight line.
What would you do differently?:

Breathe and Swim with more rhythm.

Don't swim in zig zags.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

T1 was probably 100yards after the swim, which wasn't long - however i wasn't expecting it. I began to rip off my wetsuit once i exited the water. Had a bit of trouble getting the zipper down, and then also forgot i had i Tri top on under my wetsuit. Tried to rip that off too, before i realized (i'm an idiot).
What would you do differently?:

I'd remember the amount of gear i had on. Get my wetsuit off faster. And maybe skip wearing socks.
Bike
  • 39m 25s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.27 mile/hr
Comments:

The minimal amount of pot holes were well marked with pink spray paint. Doing three laps was kinda a pain... mainly because i found it very boring and ran out of things to think about.
What would you do differently?:

Had a bit of trouble clipping into my bike pedals. Would likely increase speed during bike next time.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

T2 went pretty well. Changed into sneakers, ate GU, removed Tri top.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

My calves were mad tired during the first .5 mile. Afterwords they loosened up a bit. Enjoyed the run on the boardwalk heading towards the V bridge. Wish i had thrown my Shuffle on... think i could have pushed myself a bit harder if i had some good tunes.
What would you do differently?:

Ipod Shuffle. Pushed it a bit more at end of race.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished. Grabbed Water. Took Cold Outdoor Shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pretty happy overall. Soreness from prior week hampered bike performance.

Event comments:

Great Race. Going to do it next year
