Swim
Comments: 43rd out of 537 women 1:35 per 100 yard pace I rented my wetsuit, and didn't try it out before the race. Unfortunately it was too big. What would you do differently?: Get a wetsuit that fits! Be more aggressive: 1. Start with a sprint to get to the front of the pack right away 2. Don't stop to do breaststroke when people crowd you in- just swim through them or go around. 3. Find someone to draft off of 4. faster general pace 5. sprint it in at the finish Transition 1
What would you do differently?: practice running with my bike - i had a few issues with maintaining control of the front wheel, and had to half carry the bike at parts. very minor detail, but it could save me from having cuts on my calf next time.. learn how to mount my bike faster! Bike
Comments: 124 out of 537 women considering I bought my bike in march and haven't been out on it much, i'm ok with how i did. unfortunately, my inexperience made it impossible for me to fuel on the go, and I slowed down significantly whenever a turn or downhill approached. i wasn't pushing hard at all during this portion, and my legs felt fine when I finished. I had (too much?)gas in the tank for the run. What would you do differently?: Know the bike route before the race. This way I wouldn't be worrying about what it was like the night before, and would also make me more comfortable knowing where i'm going when nobody else is in sight... Get on my bike more. I just need to be comfortable with handling skills and going downhills. Don't lose my cyclocomputer so that I know how fast I'm going! Transition 2
Comments: I had a little problem getting my bike on the rack, but other than that it was ok. had to take a little extra time to get some water and fuel, since I wasn't able to do it on the bike. What would you do differently?: fuel on the bike. Run
Comments: 3 out of 537 women Didn't feel like I was going that fast, so I was surprised at my overall time! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Perhaps practice a few more bricks just so I'm mentally comfortable with the feeling of going from bike to run. Post race
Warm down: 3 mile run alongside the run course. It gave me extra time to cheer everyone on! What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience. This was my first triathlon, so I didn't know what to expect! I took my time so that I would enjoy the whole experience. I REALLY need to get on my bike more. I don't know how to take turns, corner, go downhill, and how to shift, and it showed in my results. I have a good bike- I need to take advantage of it! Event comments: First triathlon in the books, and I'm officially HOOKED! Last updated: 2009-06-30 12:00 AM

I attended the expo and prerace meeting the night before, and had my dinner around 8-9. This is a little too late to eat, as it doesn't give me enough time to digest my food by race morning. At least it didn't cause any problems this time!
I woke up at 4:45, made my bagel with pb and honey, and half a banana. Had a couple of sips of coffee, and laid down from 5-5:15 to let it settle. I got up at 5:15, got dressed, started loading my car and was out by 5:45.
That got me to the parking area at 5:55, and as it wasn't crowded, gave me plenty of time to get set up! I had the fourth bike in on my rack- nice!
Alot of nervous chatter! But seriously, I only did some arm circles and stretches. I figured that would warm me up for the swim, and that the swim would warm me up enough for the rest. I think this strategy mostly worked. Next time I might hop in the water for a couple of minutes though, so that I can sprint faster at the beginning of the swim.
