Swim
Comments: Had a pretty decent swim...was intimidated so started in the middle towards the back..bad idea...wasn't aware the swim started in the water- i thought we were going to run in...I turned out to be stronger on the swim than I though..i did a great job cutting the first two buoys, but I mis-sighted on the third and probably swam about 150-200 meters more than I had to...the lady in the kayak had to yell at me I was off course...I was trying to save time and was drafting off this guy next to me, who was going the wrong way... What would you do differently?: start near the front because I end up passing alot of people anyway...more of a focus on sighting- I was getting in a rhythym and didn't want to stop and sight, and I had to swim alot further than I should have...have to practice breathing both sides- everything was to my right, but at the pool I always practice breathing to my left...gotta start practicing to my right, and gotta start near the front on the sides...I was much stronger in this event than I thought, and spent the majority of the initial part just really passing people....I need to get more confident of my swimming ability and start near the front, but I was pretty happy for my first one ever! Transition 1
Comments: actually was a little dizzy from the swim- think its because I didn't get enough rest...I had to stop for a minute and get some gatorade in the transition...found the transition area pretty well...probably didn't need socks for the bike portion, especially in a sprint..also didn't have my asthma inhalor out- I should have that taped to the bike as well...I had to sit down and take a puff...Should just have that out and put in pocket and take on the bike... What would you do differently?: Need to have energy gels taped to my bike and ready to go...also should have a second water bottle.. Bike
Comments: great clear day and good conditions..felt I kept a pretty good cadence up for the race... What would you do differently?: Just keep the speed up...I was unfamiliar with the course and didn't want to burn out, but I think I gotta get the speed up...I seemed to pass alot of people on the hills and turns...not sure if I am supposed to do that then or straightaways...also, I slow down pretty fierce on those sharp turns...also, what I need to do is really "take in" the course, so I know what landmarks are where, because on the second lap, I gotta remember how far I am so I can make better Transition 2
Comments: wasn't exactly sure how to dismount- guy yelled at me actually...ran with bike to transition, then put on shoes, zipped up and started going.. What would you do differently?: hmmmm, thought I did pretty well on this one actually..probably not much Run
Comments: did well..just straight up and back...not very winding...was low on energy but had an energy gel package and felt like I got some energy back right away.. What would you do differently?: turn up the pace- too slow...wanted to pace myself better- have to learn how to "count my paces"....I was passing people and felt bad, but it's a race!!! average pace was almost 9 minute miles- but I thought I was going fast relative to everyone else since lots of people were really struggling at that point..I definitely could have turned it up at the end...but just didn't want to run empty on gas at the end...also, pulled up at the end because I didn't want to screw up someones picture..I just need to pace on the first half, and really turn it up at the half way point... Post race
Warm down: Nothing!! gotta stretch out because I am still sore today (shouldn't have played hockey last night) What limited your ability to perform faster: not enough rest, but mostly jitters, plus hockey championship and party Thursday night (OT Winner- gotta celebrate that!)...gotta pick up my run pace at practice...also gotta take advantage of massage tent and food afterwards!! Event comments: It was an awesome day! nothing like having thousands of people cheering you on at the end!!! All my hard work in the pool with Kathy and Tri class with Tara really paid off!!!...Jimmy Jeremy and Teresa had signs ready to go!!! Family cheering on at the finish!! great seeing them at the finish line!! what a rush!! officially hooked! next triathlon is Avalon Triathlon Sunday July 5th... Last updated: 2009-06-30 12:00 AM

Not very good...won spring league on thursday night in ice hockey, and only got 4-5 hours of sleep....then friday was nervous and didn't get to sleep until 11:30 PM (even though I went to bed at 9:30) and woke up around 3:30 AM and was just up...felt nautious (first one jitters)and had a banana and some Kashi cereal, and a bagel...also grabbed a power bar at Wawa in the morning...night before I tried to carb up and had a chicken and pasta dis at Duffers with Joe Jackson, who flew in from Atlanta and was doing his first triathlon with me...next time just make a good spaghetti and meatball dish at the house
just set everything up, and soaked in atmosphere...wow, a ton of people at Philly...got there with time to spare but really need to get there a little earlier next time...Karl there volunteering was huge since he was able to point me in the right direction for everything...
