Swim
Comments: First time using Wet Suit - felt good at first then...combined with everything including not being a good swimmer despite a fair amount of training... I basically bonked, swallowed, coughed - it was ugly. A few moments of rhythm and that was it. What would you do differently?: Keep training, must get better despite really not liking swimming at all. Might try to keep head above water until first buoy, then try to find my stroke? Must find a way to keep my breathing Transition 1
Comments: I was spent leaving the water and staggered for a good 50 feet...totally out of air which led to my horrible T1 split. Probably should learn to get into shoes while on the bike, especially here where I had a relatively long jog with the bike to the start. What would you do differently?: Continued work on swimming - pivotal to the whole race. Learn to enter shoes while on the bike. Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good overall after taking a bit of time to 'adjust' after the horrible swim. Roads kinda narrow and you have to stay inside the yellow lines.... and since the waves were by age and I was in #9, there were an awful lot of people I had to pass (bad swimmer, good biker, my cross to bear!) What would you do differently?: When the swim is in salt water...vaseline the inner thighs... Transition 2
Comments: This went well. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My strongest 'event' but... I have Plantar Fasciitis so...minimal training and pain.. but, time was pretty good. Again, due to my poor swim time - I had to pass a lot of people which uses energy (my fault, gotta fix that swim!) What would you do differently?: Continue rehabbing this stupid PF ! Post race
Warm down: My son was waiting at the finish and we grabbed some liquids and bagels etc... stretched and found ice for his sprained ankle and my feet. Plenty of food and drink was available. Should have planned to stay longer and hit the beach but we had a long drive home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim breakdown, PF. Event comments: Nice job by Rich and all his volunteers - tons of them! My son got 2nd in his age group so we waited a long time for the 'awards' (he got a nice hat) ...Sorry to complain, but awards should probably commence no more than 2 hours after the start of a sprint. As it was, that didn't wrap until 4+ hours after the start (I know, ungrateful!). We will be back next year! Last updated: 2009-06-30 12:00 AM

Came down the night prior with my 17 year old son who also raced! Stayed at Centerville Corners which was < 1 mile from the start so...we didn't have to worry about parking. Up at 5:30 and ate a plain bagel and Sobe Green Tea.
We biked the course the night before, and went for a brief swim right after - very few people joined us (water very cold) but glad we did it. Race Morning - Biked to the start and set up transitions. Swam for 5-6 minutes to get a bit acclimated. 9th wave soooo... plenty of waiting but my son was in wave #1 so I got to see him start AND finish the swim and cheer him on all the way to his bike start.
