Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5. Had a smoothie. Packed the car and headed out to the race... First Olympic/International distance!!
Event warmup:

A little stretching and probably about 50 yards swimming...
Swim
  • 26m 41s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went pretty well. Started more in line with the buoy. Got a good pace and kept it up the entire time, never felt winded. Drafted whenever I do the opportunity. Good pace! Getting out wasn't easy! haha
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder, but did well with that. I wasn't ready to pull myself out of the water onto the floating dock. I fell back in the water after the first attempt. HAHA Finally managed to get out!
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

This transition was the worst to date. The suit got stuck on both heels and I had a really hard time getting it off my left ankle. Definitely cost me some time here!
What would you do differently?:

I tried bodyglide on the heels, but I think I need to look into something else... The suit may have caught on the timing chip so maybe have it a little tighter next time?
Bike
  • 1h 10m 27s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.16 mile/hr
Comments:

It was the best bike ride to date including training!! 21mph!! My computer conked out on me less than a mile in the ride so I was no longer receiving my speed or distance and I think the time was off as well. Fortunately the cadence still worked.

Good ride, but I wish the cops at the first intersection had been paying better attention. I was 100-150 yards behind the next person, they held traffic for him and then started waving it through with me coming down a good hill. One car saw me and stopped turning right, the one turning left kept going, I hit the brakes skidded some and yelled "HEY!!!!" really loudly, they heard that and stopped and I managed to squeak by. Lost a lot of speed with that one, but what were the cops thinking?!?!?!?!?

There was also suppossed to be a water bottle station at mile 11 on the bike. There wasn't... Fortunately I had filled my aerobottle up with plenty gatorade and hadn't really been counting on the water...
What would you do differently?:

I don't think there was anything to do about the comp? It worked before the race. As for the cops, you still have to pay complete attention even during the race for crazy people!! I still need to ride a lot more to continue to improve!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Good transition... Could have run faster with the bike and racked it a little quicker but I did ok. Was deciding how to rack the bike when I ran into the transition area, practice/think it through earlier than that.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty smooth transition...
Run
  • 47m 44s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run, I was worried about this one cause my achilles had started to act up again. But it went well. I broke the don't change anything race day routine and had a gel before the first mile was over. I needed a pick me up.. It worked out well though, fortunately...
What would you do differently?:

Run more, better rehab on the achilles...
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water, light stretching, eat the food they had there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Working camps the last few weeks before and going out to dinner definitely affected my bike and run. Achilles was still acting up a little. I can definitely improve my bike and run times and will move up in the rankings.

Event comments:

Nice course!! Good swim, good bike and shaded run!! Would definitely do again!!
