Swim
Comments: Really good swim for me, especially considering the lack of training this month. I was comfortable, yet felt like I was pushing my pace. Sometimes I have problems swimming straight, but I think I did a really good job with that this time. What would you do differently?: Maybe I could've drafted more, but overall there wasn't much I could've done better. Transition 1
Comments: I had some difficulty getting the wetsuit off, which slowed me down a bit here. I'm not sure what the exact time was because the transitions were included in the bike time. What would you do differently?: Get the wetsuit off faster. Bike
Comments: Because the transitions times were included in this, my pace was most likely above 20mph, which is pretty good for this course. I rode my new bike for only the 2nd time and boy was that fun! I really felt like I was going fast the whole time. I passed lots of people and didn't get passed by anyone. What would you do differently?: Not much, I think I did well. Transition 2
Comments: Much better transition here. I only got one foot out of the shoes but that didn't turn out to be a big issue at all. What would you do differently?: Get both feet out in time. Run
Comments: This wasn't my best run ever, but over 8:00/mi doesn't seem right, so I tend to agree that the course was long. I started out going very hard which may have been a mistake. I didn't realize how tough the course really was. In the last mile my quads started cramping up and wouldn't let me pick up the pace even though I had someone in my sights. Then I twisted my ankle on some slippery rocks and after that I pretty much just put it in cruise control just to make sure I finished without killing myself. What would you do differently?: Now that I know what to expect from the course I may be smarter about were to use my energy on this run next time around. Post race
Warm down: Chatted with some friends, stetched a little. Had a home brewed beer from B.A.D. brewing :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor race strategy on the run, but that was probably only the difference between 9th and 10th Event comments: The Catskill Mountain Multisport group did a fantastic job putting this race on. They made the most of their limited volunteers, and set up a challenging but fun course. Alot of good athletes were here to race, and I was lucky to even place in my age group as the top 2 from 20-29 were the top 2 in the entire race and are very very fast guys. Stayed with the friends that I would be celebrating the 4th with the night before, we were up until 2am, then I had a really hard time falling asleep because they stayed up even later. I ate a clif bar and a mango then headed to the venue.
Ran for a bit and biked for a bit. Unfortunately I didn't get to swim before the race started.
