Swim
Comments: With only a month of swim training I was happy with the time. It was my first event with a 2 lap swim. The short little run seemed to tighten me up... so I put it on cruise control. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: T1 was pretty good. Looking over times, I had the 4th fastest T1. Kind of surprising. Learned from my prior races on how to better align the bike towards the bike route entrance. That and an outside spot made it so I had an easy route in and out. Bike
Comments: Bike split was good. First lap was rough because my legs felt like jello, Tried to spin to pedal through it. Second and Third lap felt good and I built up my average. Took it a bit slower on the 4th lap. Ignored the water bottles... looked like it was more trouble than it was worth. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Well, not much I can say here. It just sucked. I've only done 2 races prior to this and if anything, I tried to learn the T1 and T2 entrances and exits so I didn't make mistakes. Well, I made a huge one. The dismount area was 1) wet pavement 2) into a mud puddle 3) down a thick mulch path. All three made a for an accident waiting to happen... and I was that one! As I dismounted, I pulled my right foot off first. I didn't realize that in doing so, I turned the wheel to the left and the front went off the pavement into the mud. I wasn't going very fast, but had no way to save it. I just went flying down into the mud shoulder first. Bruised my hip as well. In fact, I must have hit pavement. Things didn't go well on the exit either. I couldn't get my race belt snapped, dropped my garmin (twice), and accidentally carried my swim cap with me when I picked up my visor. I basically stood and took 15 seconds (after the timing mat) righting myself. Live, learn, and practice... one of these days I'll get one of these right What would you do differently?: If its wet, take the time and stop. Run
Comments: Got a cramp in my side 1.5 miles in. Fought through it and continued on. Started feeling good from miles 3 to 4.5. Then horrible after that. I can't run and have come to that concusion. Just something I need to work on. What would you do differently?: Run more, run more, run more. Post race
Warm down: Went and hopped in the lake wiping all of the mud off. Swam out a bit to try and stretch my shoulders which were hurting, the left from the spill on the bike and the right from chopping into someone from the first wave I caught on the swim. What limited your ability to perform faster: 1) Amount of run training 2) Taking a spill entering the bike dismount area 3) Warmup 4) Need to work on my pre-race week activities. I still don't know how much to train during the week Event comments: when will it ever stop raining. Whole transition area was a swamp. The trail running was nuts on the way out on the run. My hip is sore with a nice raspberry. Last updated: 2009-07-03 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:45am with the wife asking if I was supposed to be up already. No alarm clock! With an hour to drive, there went my idea of warming up.
Had a decent breakfast of bagel and PB with some coffee. Drank water and Powerade on the ride up.
swam out to the far buoy and back. All I really had time for.
