Got up at 2:45 to make the drive to Annandale. Nothing out of the ordinary prerace.

I've swam about once per week for about 20 minute for the past few months and that has helped compared to not swimming at all before last year's race. Felt very smooth in the water and didn't feel like I was working very hard.

Right from the start I felt great on the bike. I still probably haven't ridden much more than 100 miles this year, but I have done some spinning and did a few workouts geared toward helping me at HOLT and next week at Chisago. It seemed to have helped. I felt great the entire ride with the exception of my calf cramping up at about mile 14. I had a little bit of trouble with it the rest of the way, but it really didn't slow me down any. I was more concerned about how it would feel on the run since it had already ruined one race for me this year.

My calf felt fine right away and it never was an issue, I'm quite thankful for that. The run went really well. I was able to pace properly again (something I've been working hard on) and it paid off by being able to really push the last mile and a half. It would really be nice if they could put some mile marker on the run so I could know how fast I was going.

Warm down:

I was very pleased with my time. I took over 6 minutes off my time from last year and met my two goals of biking over 22mph and runing sub 7s. Just a great day.
