Run
Comments: The first 3 miles were flat or downhill, which was great. But through the first 2 miles I felt tired/weak, but I seemed to loosen up. I pushed myself pretty hard. What would you do differently?: Although I pushed myself pretty hard, I think I could've done a little better. I know near the end that after I passed under the picture area near the finish and could see the banner for the finish line, I should have started sprinting there. I waited until the last hundred yards or so to start sprinting. Had I started sprinting earlier, I think I could've came in under 60 minutes (59:59 would've been great for me!). Also, I truly only trained a few weeks for this race. Next year I'd like to get a qualifying time to get into a lower time group, and my goal will be fun train for 3 months and get to where I can run the race in about 55 minutes or so. Post race
Warm down: Walk 1/2 mile back to the car. Event comments: This was my third time running this race (2005, 2007, 2009). The first year I didn't train for it and ran it in about 1:06:00. The next year I did it in 1:02:00. This year was 1:00:09. I've improved each year, but I've yet to consistently train and prepare for a significant period of time. Next year I'd like to really prepare and do much better. I turned 30 this year so it feels good to be in better shape than ever before even as I get older. Hopefully 31 will be even better than 30 - and maybe I can catch my wife - since she always beats me! Last updated: 2009-07-04 12:00 AM
