Swim
Comments: The water was rough enough coupled with so many people in such a small space that within the 1st minute I was convinced that I was going to have a horrible race. Had a lot of trouble out to and around the first buoy, out of breath, drank plenty of salt water, and heartrate seemed high. Once around the buoy I got to the outside and just focused on swimming like I knew I could. My HR seemed to drop considerably and I finished feeling good. Transition 1
Comments: No complaints, just a typical transition. Bike
Comments: the course was incredibly crowded...almost 600 people on a 6 mile course. Bikes were 5 wide trying to pass and drafting / blocking were unavoidable. That said, it was a good bike. I pushed hard enough that I wasn't sure I'd have much left on the run but reserved enough that I ended up being fine. What would you do differently?: With so many bikes and 3 turn arounds, not much can be done differently. There were several times that I had to come out of aero position and tap the breaks so as not to crash b/c there was no room to pass. Transition 2
Comments: I know I lost a few seconds racking my bike but overall this was a pretty good transition. No complaints. What would you do differently?: I think if I want to get better in transition I need to be able to run faster w/o jacking the heartrate. The actual transition process seems efficient. I think I lose time b/c I don't run faster through the transition area. Run
Comments: Going into this race I thought the run would be a disaster. Thought I'd have to push very hard to maintain 10 min/mile. Knowing that I can run fast off the bike I just went out at a comfortable pace, ended up at 8:54 min/mile. Decided that I would try not to lose too much on the second mile. A couple times I noticed that I slowed down and I picked up the pace. Ended up a bit over 9:00 min/mile. Knowing that I had less than a mile to go I decided that I'd make it hurt and maintain my speed. Last quarter mile sucked but ended up averaging just under 9:00 min/mile. Post race
Warm down: lots of fluids and watched my family finish. My parents and Kristen did a relay and my siter and her husband each did the race. Lots of fun. Event comments: In case the RD is reading this - start the race 15 minutes earlier and add 3 waves to the start. It would help to spread out the racers so that the swim/bike are not so crowded. Otherwise, well done. Last updated: 2009-07-06 12:00 AM

This was originally planned as a "C" race. So, no taper, no pre-race routine, nothing in particular.
Walk down to the beach and a couple strokes in the rough water.
