Run
Comments: I didn't know what to do with this.. I tried to concentrate on good form (not crossing my arms in front of me), didn't want to go out too hard. What would you do differently?: nothing really Transition 1
Comments: This was a really bad part of the race for me. There were a lot of beginners (not that I am super advanced) who were walking as slow as they possibly could with their bikes in the transition area, and it continued even after we got out of the transition area. There were shaky people everywhere and I was having a tough time getting through and getting up to speed on my bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing that I really could have done about this, unless I was going to be mean and run into people with my bike, knocking them out of the way. I decided it wasn’t worth the few extra seconds. Bike
Comments: I shouldn't complain - everything was well-organized, flat and fast course. However, it was crowded and I was having a tough time getting by other riders at certain parts of the course. The race directors told everyone to stay to the right except to pass, maybe they need to post signs along the course. Anyway, the bike is my favorite leg of the tri, I did enjoy riding along the river – great scenic course. What would you do differently?: Maybe I needed to be more aggressive about passing and getting around people, but I was trying to play it safe. Transition 2
Comments: I actually did wear racing flats for this, considering my running was going to be weighted so heavily in the final results. I wasn’t sure how that would go with my orthotic issues – they tend to feel awkward in my racing flats. However, I had no major issues and they were comfortable for both runs. I also used my new bungee shoelaces which worked out well in the transition area. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I felt alright – not terrible, but really not great. I could feel that my form was all whacky and my arms were crossing in front of me. I was able to kick it in for a nice sprint finish – the last 400 meters or so, passing 2 people in my age group. What would you do differently?: Run faster? Post race
Warm down: 8 minutes along the river, still in my racing flats which was uncomfortable - I wasn't sure if were were allowed to go in the transition area yet. I did some stretching while I stuck around and chatted with people - I thought about leaving early but I am happy that I stayed around to find out that I placed in my age group. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not prepared for a du! Event comments: Great organization, I love that race number pickup was the day before. Less stress on race day! Great people, volunteers, everything on time. I will do another CGI race in the future. Last updated: 2009-07-12 12:00 AM

Get up at 5:00, eat a bowl of oatmeal with banana, walnuts and hemp milk. Leave around 5:30 (the race site is only about 20 mins from my house which is awesome). Arrive around 6:50 - sip on coffee during the long walk from my truck to the transition area. On my way into the transition area I hear the announcement that this will be a duathlon (because of the storm last night). Mixed emotions, I am doing this race because I want the open water swim practice and I was super excited about swimming in the Schuylkill River. However, I come from a running background so I really should be happy about this.
Not sure how to warmup for a du - I didn't want to ride a lot and then have my legs feel weird for the first run. I took my bike out for 5 minutes just to make sure it was working properly, then I wasted some time talking to people from previous races, people from college, the awesome guy from my local bike shop (Action Wheels!). I had too much time without the swim.. I then went for a 10 minute run and did a few short strides.
