Swim
Comments: This was the first time swimming this distance non stop. My main focus was to relax and breathe. After the first 200m, it was a lot better. Before hitting the first buoy, I was thinking to myself, what have I gotten myself into here. I let everyone go ahead of me as planned. My goals were simple, Don't drown and don't stop swimming. After I hit the first Buoy, I told myself I could rest at the next buoy, as soon as I hit the next buoy, I told myself the same thing over. On the back 1250m and remaining 250m I swam freestyle without stopping, except a few breast strokes to make sure I was still on target. Overall, for my first triathlon, I am pleased. What would you do differently?: Train a lot more, now that I am more comfortable. Remain calm and focused. Transition 1
Comments: I was extremely happy to be done swimming. I had a slight issue getting the Wetsuit off. I have been use to taking it off in the water, and I wish I had stuck to that. What would you do differently?: Triathlon Cycling shoes, too much time wasted buckling my shoes. Take suit off in the water. RUN IN T1, not jog. Bike
Comments: I felt very comfortable with the cycling portion, even though this was my first real effort on my bicycle. I trained all season with a GT Outpost, Picked up a Trek 2.3 one week before the race. I wanted to be in under 1:05, I think I drank way too much Accelerade and Gel. Had a gel within the first 200 yards, and one within the last half mile. What would you do differently?: One large bottle of Accelerade, One bottle of water, and One gel. Transition 2
Comments: I messed up tying one of my laces and had to retie it. I was way too bloated with the amount of liquid I drank through out. What would you do differently?: Feet of shoes on bike. Train better with shoes. Run
Comments: I thought that I was on my pace of 7 min miles, I was totally off. I was bloated and I didn't take my ipod, I wanted to get use to running without it in events. I used my ipod during training to make sure I was on pace with the stopwatch. DID NOT EXPECT A HILL OF THAT GRADE. What would you do differently?: Pickup a HR/Running watch for pace. Train in some hilly regions. Post race
Warm down: walked around, happy I didn't drown and I finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: being my first ever triathlon, the race nerves had me. I think I over hydrated at times. No HR/Pace watch. Event comments: I am overall decently happy except for my run performance. I should have been under 42 minutes. I am addicted to this new pain giving sport. I am super stoked for training over the next month and half for the two remaining Oly Triathlons I am doing. Feels awesome to be a Triathlete. Last updated: 2009-07-12 12:00 AM
