Overall Rank = 57/250
Age Group = 35-39 Male
Age Group Rank = 10/30
Pre-race routine:

Stress a bit, go to the restroom 2 times, then relax under a tree.
Event warmup:

Swim 2 minutes (wished I did more!!)
Swim
  • 00m
  • 880 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

As usual, my goggles keep fogging before the race start, despite all the measures I have tried to avoid that (anti-fog products, spit, lick, etc) which always make me stress a bit before the start.

I had to stop a few times to remove the water of my goggles. I did not hold my crawl the whole time; did a bit of side crawl and backstroke. But this time I did not panic and it went a lot better.
What would you do differently?:

More warmup inthe water; Make sure my goggles are not leaking before the start. I really need to find a way to prevent my goggles from fogging.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

My damn time chip did not register the end of my swim. So there was one official running after me in T1 giving me another chip. Lost a lot of time there. I did the remaining of the race with 2 timing chips.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my timing chip registers well before race start.
Bike
  • 33m 24s
  • 19 kms
  • 34.13 km/hr
Comments:

My fastest bike ride of the year, including all of my training sessions. I was on fire that day on the bike. I passed a lot of people there. making up for my slow swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! I just hope I can do it again :)

Perhaps the only thing I would change is not slowing down that much when arriving near the end of the course. I got stock in a pack slowing down way too soon.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I had cramps in my calves during T2, so I decided to stretch my calves before starting the run. I lost a few positions there.
Run
  • 25m 16s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 03s  min/km
Comments:

The idea of walking kept coming back at the beginning of the run, but I told myself maybe a 100 times: "Walking is not an option". I allowed myself to slow down but never stop running. That's good because most people I passed were people walking.

The only problem is my injury, (iliotibial muscle syndrome) keeps bothering me during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Try to hold my pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around with my "Finisher's medal" hehe :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim is where I have the most potential to cut minutes off my total time. I really need to get better in this discipline.

Event comments:

I will really try to make the 2 other chapters of the T-REX serie.
