Swim
Comments: I thought this was a good swim for me. I was calm and relaxed the whole time, but I felt that I was pushing the pace fairly well since it was only an 800. I was able to draft a bit. I stayed on the outside of the pack because the slower swimmers in earlier waves were blocking up the inside. What would you do differently?: Overall, I was a minute slower than I wanted, but without a wetsuit, i think I did pretty good. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Grabbed a quick drink and left. Time was solid - it was a long uphill run from swim exit. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Strong bike. The wind made the average speed suffer, but the rank amongst competitors was best yet for me. I felt a little tired out there because I had ridden 40 hard miles the day before, but this was just a race to have fun and practice so I didn't do any tapering or resting. Could have gone faster had I not done a hard week of training. I attacked the hills and never really let up. I had one salt tab and one Stinger on the bike to get me through the strong run on the hills and trails. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: I got confused running in and paused momentarily to look for my marker on the racks. I also stopped at my mat to wipe my feet to make sure not to have rocks on my feet for the run as the transition was really dirty and rocky with no grass. What would you do differently?: pay better attention to the marker I chose as I ran in to avoid the couple seconds of indecision. Run
Comments: Good run. I felt a little slow to start, but leaving transition is a gradual decline so that helped. I tried to run the tangents and stay on the inside of the course. I felt really good after the first mile and was in a solid rhythm. I started to push hard for the line as soon as I crested the big hill by the damn and hit the asphalt surface. I could have picked up the pace earlier had the hill not steepened near the top. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water bottle and a towel. Than, I ran 2.2 miles with Robin as she finished her race...that was the best and most cool down I have ever done after a race. What limited your ability to perform faster: riding 40 miles hard the day before the race. Event comments: Best finishing placement yet. The J&A crew and High 5 Events put on great races. Really solid! Last updated: 2009-07-13 12:00 AM

late race so I woke up at 5:30 to get out the door at 6:15. Transition closed at 7:30 and parking was on site so we wanted to be there at 6:45.
Our start was late so we knew there'd be time to relax, have water, and visit the port-o-cans after transition closed.
had a bottle with 2 scoops of perpetuem in the car and a Stinger 10 minutes before getting in the water.
