Swim
Comments: I had a really bad swim my last sprint tri, so I felt really insecure about the swim, even though I have been improving a lot in the pool. My plan was to be really conservative for the whole swim to avoid getting too excited, then gassed after 100 meters. I actually enjoyed the swim and never "tried" to go fast, just relax and use it as a warm-up. This totally goes against my personality so it was difficult. But I was happy after the swim when I didn't feel as though I was already hyperventilating! What would you do differently?: Swim more towards the middle to catch the current better. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: So I think I am improving somewhat on the bike but I still have a ways to go. My strategy this time was to be careful to spin up the hills and not go anaerobic. In the past, I have done every bike leg only in the big ring, for fear of losing my chain. I knew I couldn't do that this time or I would completely blow my legs in the first mile! I Loved being in the first wave and starting in front of everyone instead of being one of the last ones to go. I was a little worried there would be a bunch of dudes going 30 mph blasting past me but it didn't really happen like that. I passed and was passed pretty equally. There was one guy with a baggy t shirt and road bike who kept passing back in forth who was blocking people the Whole way! He simply wouldn't get over the the left At All and it was really annoying. I actually thought about saying something to him but then a girl came by and screamed at him so I thought I would refrain. Maybe he didn't know the rules? What would you do differently?: I definiely felt faster on my new bike going downhill. My split was about what it has been for most of my tris still, but I definitely help back a good bit so I could try to have good run. I need to knock about ten minutes off this time to be competitive. At the end of the bike on teh exit ramp a guy blew past me with a half-on skinsuit and an ATC uniform. I spent the last few miles thinking Who is that?!?! It turned out to be Paul and he'd obviously forgotten to take his suit off! Obviously didn't slow him down! Transition 2
Run
Comments: This run course wasn't Too bad except for the first and last mile which featured some steepness. I was going to try and hold a 7 min pace for the first three then pick it up. My goal was to do 43 or 44. I passed a ton of people but not nearly as many as usual. This was a really competitive field so there were tons of good runners. After four miles I really started to struggle and my pace was getting progressively slower. I was still doing pretty well until the last mile when I had to jog SOOO slow up the steep hills which killed my time. Oh well, it didn't end up too bad and I passed a ton of girls in my AG. If I am better at anything than another I am glad its the run because gaining spots in the end is very energizing. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I will just keep training and hopefully, improving! Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the ATC folks for a long time, got to watch everyone finish. Actually got a picture of hub finishing! What limited your ability to perform faster: Still very new to the sport... plus its my 8th time racing in 11 weeks! I think I need a break from racing! Event comments: I will Definitely do this one next year! Swimming in the river was awesome! My goal was to qualify for AG nats, which I did... but I can't go. I will definitely hope to go next year, when I have trained more. Last updated: 2009-07-13 12:00 AM

Hub and I stayed overnight at the Days Inn. Drove the bike course before and was surprised at the long slow-looking hills.
Ran about .75 miles but it ended up being 2.5 hours or so before I actually started. For some reason I had to be the first person down there, and on the First bus... Just in case!
