Swim
Comments: The beginning was crazy, so many people. It was tough to get into a rhythm because of all the people but also because this was my first tri! But eventually, I was able to get into some sort of rhythm. I felt like I spent most of the time, though, trying to get around people. What would you do differently?: Stay more towards the outer edges of the pack so it's easier to get around people. Also maybe start towards the beginning of the pack so I don't have to worry about this. Transition 1
Comments: My transition was slow. It took time to switch tops, especially because I just came out of the water. It also took time to clean off my feet and put my socks and shoes on - I only had a small hand towel to wipe off with. What would you do differently?: Bring a bigger towel to put on the floor to step on. I also had my stuff in a bag, so next time I'll lay out my stuff. Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike. A little windy, but nothing I couldn't handle. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe just push myself a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was good. I just had to change my shoes. What would you do differently?: Lay out my shoes next time. Run
Comments: I felt good during the run. It was much more hilly than I was prepared for, but it was very reminiscent of when I used to do cross country in high school. The hills were a challenge but I didn't let that stop me because I was almost done with my first tri! What would you do differently?: Train more for hills. Post race
Warm down: Stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just myself. Event comments: This race is great for beginners! Last updated: 2009-07-13 12:00 AM

I ate a Luna bar and a banana about two hours before the event. Then we arrived exactly an hour before the event was set to start, which turned out to be good timing because my friend was only 15 minutes behind me, and he ended up having to wait 35 minutes just to get into the park. I set up my transition stuff, registered, and stretched a little bit.
Stretched and warmed up my muscles. Focused mainly on my arms to get ready for the swim.
