Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 415, showered, ate a bagel with peanut butter. No peanut butter in the future as it gave me heartburn during the run. I drank a 12 oz SF Redbull at 5 AM. Departed house at 5 for the race & arrived at 545. Next time I will rack my bike then go get numbered. I did have an excellent rack space. Set-up of transition was good and people around me were very encouraging.
Event warmup:

I did a little stretching & did get in the water to get a feel of the water temp.

One of the other contestants did spray my swim goggles with anti-fogging spray and it seemed to work well
Swim
  • 24m 26s
  • 528 yards
  • 04m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim started out well for the first 150 meters. Then I started to have form breakdowns. I flipped to BS and rotated between FS & BS the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I need more practice and work. Considing where I was 4 weeks ago I think it went pretty well.

Sight was good and I was able to sight during the BS by watching the fast swimmers in the waves behind me and using them to stay on line.
Transition 1
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

I thought it went well. I had everything set-up just right
What would you do differently?:

I would run or jog to my bike. this race I was in a daze so I walked.
Bike
  • 37m 45s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.66 mile/hr
Comments:

I smoked the bike ride. I limited myself between two gears and really tried to keep my RPM's up. I think it worked well
What would you do differently?:

Keep training on speed work
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

I had an excellent rack location. T-2 went very well even though I almost fell down running to T-2 exit point
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 42m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought my run was really bad but I guess it was about where I had trained.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to keep training for the run and I think this is an area where I can improve.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around some. Talked with family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of training on the swim & run. It will just take more time to get better overall

Event comments:

My first Sprint-Triathlon.

I enjoyed it and look forward to racing in this event next summer.
