Pre-race routine:

The usual. Up at 5, diet pepsi and sausage McMuffin down the hatch. Mmmm. Yeah, it works. Got to the race, and some deranged chick in a skirt attacked me with a water bottle before I even got to the race packet pick-up. Damn! That was trixie. What's she doing in a skirt? :)

Got the packet, breezed through the expo, went to the car to drop schtuff off, took a couple pics, then headed back to race start.

***I BEAT THE BEJEZUS OUT OF TRIX AND G8RSAX IN THE RACE TO THE PORT-A-JOHN.*** They had no game. One victory under my belt, more to come. :)

Then...SUPERMAN pictures pre-race. Trix is being 'flown around' by two strong brutes (Rick, Wendi) helping to warm up the Brightroom photographer. When THIS pic is available, it'll be classic. Stay tuned.

Oh, and I picked up a few tips on how to enjoy your pre-race gel from Trix and G8RSAX. Next race they're gonna help me with the Cherry Crank e-Gel that they supplied me with. :)
Event warmup:

None. Walked to the middle of the pack and stood around in a crowd. Then walked the 150 yds to the start line after the gun sounded.

Comments:

Ran with Trix for the first 5, averaging 8:25's. We were using her garmin to pace us - and it lied like Richard Nixon. So we're at mile 5 and I'm 2 friggin minutes down to my goal pace. Time to step it up!!!

So about this point we run into Dwayne (grillmaster). He's like, "I can't run this fast". So why the hell was he 2 minutes ahead of us, huh? Anyway, we ran together for a minute until Trix decided to lure us into a 'false bathroom break'. We all stopped so she could evacuate, she goes into the woods, and comes right back out "It's too dense". Damn, there go 30 seconds. :)

So then I took off...Negative splitted the next 5 miles by almost 4 minutes. Resisted the offers of BEER and KRISPY KREME DONUTS on the course. Tempting, yes, but I'm cruising at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Run over trix's garmin with my big ass truck.
Post race
Warm down:

Meandered around, got cold towels and two popsicles (Where's Wendi? :) ), grabbed a banana and headed back out to cheer on the folks still finishing. Probably ran, jogged, or walked another 2 miles.

Then we changed, met up with everyone, watched Trixie destroy a bunch of gung-ho marines in a pull-up / hang contest. Then the skies opened up, drenching us all...no one had any dry cloting left, no towels, so the drowned rat posse took off on heated seats. No need for a warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Repositioning the Garmin satellites, Training, diet, diet, training, sleep, diet, training. And speedwork.

Event comments:

Awesome race, I've done it probably 10 times in the last 15 years. Well organized, great volunteers, awesome cheering, sprinklers, hoses, bands, and stereos keep ya motivated.

And where else, if you were having a shitty race, could you score Krispy Kreme's and Beer on-course? Yeah, I'll be back!!
