Pre-race routine:

Woke up a bit late as the alarm on my watch either never went off or I shut it off without knowing it. Had to hurry down to get setup in transition. Made with time to spare but I generally like to get to the race a little bit earlier.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warmup for this race. The water was very cold, only in the upper 50s, so I didn't want to get in until the start.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim distance was shortened to 500m due to the cold water temps. Made for a very quick swim. There was quite a bit of chop even though we were swimming in the partially protected waters between the two periods.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Bike
  • 1h 11m 40s
  • 24.85 miles

Transition 2

Run
  • 40m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

The run course was a bit short. Rather than 6.2 miles, I believe it was around 5.9 miles. I was happy with my run and was able to get into a good rhythym and really get moving.
Post race
Event comments:

I really benefitted from the shortened swim in this event. I didn't have as much ground to make up on the bike and run. I guess it makes it even more evident that I really need to work on my swimming this winter.

Course: The course was slightly rolling. The first 30k was generally slighlty rolling uphill, though none of the hills were very steep or difficult. Most of this portion of the bike was in to a decent headwind. The last 10k along the the lake was quite fasting as it was gently sloping downhill with a fairly strong tailwind.

Course: Out and back with a finish running along the beach. The last .25 mile or so was a bit tough getting through the sand until you could get down to the water level where the sand was wet and firm.
