Swim
Comments: Went better than I expected. Swam at a quick pace for me, which obviously has to do with the indoor heated pool. Had to swim around a bunch of people but nothing too crazy. What would you do differently?: Better estimate my swim time for a better seeding. Transition 1
Comments: Thought I did this a bit quicker than I actually did. Nothing really went wrong, guess I just need to move quicker. Bike
Comments: So I rented a carbon FP60 front wheel for this race. Unfortuantely I didn't think before the race that it won't work with my cycle computer without a sensor attached to the spokes...So I end up on the course and my cycle computer isn't working. I train pretty much based on MPH so I know what MPH I can sustain and still be able to run well. Unfortunately I didn't have this information and I think it's what cost me a podium spot as I know I can sustain above 20mph for 12 miles which I just didn't do, and didn't push hard enough. Other than not having my speed information and not pushing hard enough I still did great on the bike and passed tons of people so that was good. What would you do differently?: Make sure the cycle computer works in my pre race ride check. Transition 2
Comments: Could have gotten the shoes on a bit faster, other than that good transition just need to move a bit faster. What would you do differently?: Work on putting on shoes Run
Comments: Again my run is the weakest component of my race. After finishing my legs felt like I could have pushed a bit harder and cut maybe another 30-40 seconds off my time. Overall still very happy with how the run went, and glad I got under 8 minute miles. What would you do differently?: Not much, more run training. Post race
Warm down: walked around and stretched a bit had some water gatorade and banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Forget my technology crutch (aka cycle computer). I missed my podium goal by a minute and twelve seconds which I know I could have picked up on the bike and run which is what is the most annoying. However I'm thrilled that I improved my time over last year by about 4 minutes and moved up into the top 40 overall. Dunno If I'll get the chance to do this race again next year, hopefully I will so I can finally get that elusive podium. Event comments: Still a great race, however I think it is growing too big for its location. The indoor pool with the seeded start is pretty terrible if you're towards the back as you can wait quite some time to get into the pool. Still a great beginner race, but I think they need to start limiting the number of participants. Last updated: 2009-07-15 12:00 AM
