Swim
Comments: I had read about the sun being in your eyes on BT a few days before the race but not willing to change goggles at the last minute. I was shooting for less than 20 mins b/c I didnt know what to expect so was please when I exited the water before 17 mins. What would you do differently?: tinted goggles maybe and maybe a faster start past the hoard when you first get into the water rather than hanging back Transition 1
Comments: Goggles and cap off before into T1, fairly short run to bike rack compared to other races Ive done and the whole time Im saying out loud, grab helmet, shoes, sunglasses. I swish my foot in a container of water before putting my socks on and dammit, I dont care if Im slow at it- if I have one grain of sand in my toes for the bike and the run, it will drive me insane so I take extra time...yes, I know I could cut some time off here! Also, it was my first race with my clipless so I was just taking it easy getting out of T1 onto the bike What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Clipless realllly helped me not overexpend the energy in my legs, glad I did it. I was somehwat careful cornering and stopping at the end as not to forget I had them on and wipe out in front of everyone. I really like passing people and I loved that there was hardly any wind What would you do differently?: I have a Trek hybrid so next year I want the road bike, I think that will help.... Transition 2
Comments: I was surprised at the number of peole who get off their bike and walk slowly to rack it...but i got my bike racked no problem and got my running shoes on quickly, grabbed my gatorade off my bike and just put on my hat and took off What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: it was in the sun the whole way...my calves were stiff at about the half mile mark...need to practice the bricks more!!!!!!!!! Good flat run though What would you do differently?: push myself harder next time....I'd have liked my pace to be closer to 9:45 Post race
Warm down: I was shocked the transition area was open to finishers even tho some runners were just getting back from the bike portion and heading out... I grabbed my backpack after stretchin my legs for a few minutes and rode my bike back 2 miles to the hotel so I could get a shower in before checking out! What limited your ability to perform faster: other than tight calves on the run, I had a great race overall. A personal best time. Things just went my way all day. Event comments: I was worried about the shuttles as Id read very negative things in the past about getting to-from the race. This year it was ironed out thank goodness. I felt that the expo was verrrrry poorly signed as to where you had to go what you had to do to check in, which line to stand in to just get in to rack your bike on Saturday......hello? how bout some signage, people, its a HUGE event. And dont tell me you only have L and XL shirts left when I check in at 11am! disappointing and not really a goody bag to speak of. Post race food was banana and bagel...thats it. Cool cap colors though! Biggest bummer was that the race is far enough away from my home that I had to stay overnight and most hotels had a 2 night minimum stay. But it turned out to be money well spent. I plan to do this race again next year. Last updated: 2009-07-16 12:00 AM

Woke up at 415, double checked my gear, hydrated a bit and walked to Target parking lot at 515 from hotel to catch shuttle bus, had racked bike the day before.
Walking transition area a few times to get my bearings, periodic porta potty trips so the line wouldnt be too long at the last minute when i REALLY had to go. Socialized with others nearby on racks while stretching...
