Swim
Comments: Great Swim! Other then 1st and 2nd bouy I was on the money regarding navigation. What would you do differently?: I have no complaints about my swim. This was by far my best outing ever. I know I can get faster however, I will most likely not train as much on this leg of race because I need to desperately loose weight by running and biking more. Transition 1
Comments: Horrible Transition. I gave back much of my swim gains during transition. What would you do differently?: Practice Transitions. Map and visualize distance from swim to trans area and then out to bike course. Bike
Comments: I was dead last in Aqua bike and if you add the triathlon participants (add 700) I beat 3 of them so that would rank me 727 out of 730 (UGH!!). Not all bad because I have significant areas to grow in the bike which are closely in my grasp. For instance my time will be reduced exponentially as my weight goes down. More importantly if I didn't have the back problem I would of finished above 14 min/mile instead of sub 13 min/mile. Difference of an hour. Without injury I will most likely finish with 3:21 versus 4:21 for this course. (We'll see next year). What would you do differently?: Tune up bike, gears were horrible. You could hear me coming because the chain was loud. I fought to switch gears between front rings. My back was an issue directly related to the steep hill at mile 30. I need to practice steep hills during 20+ mile rides. Also, my position needs a lot of work. I need to be more aero so I will put tri bars on my bike (after tunning it up) to learn to ride aero. Post race
Warm down: feet hurt so it took 5 minutes before I could walk. This would of been a big problem , long transition if I would of participated in a run. However, this was due because I had to coast and stand tall because of back pain. So not such a problem. What limited your ability to perform faster: Back Pain Bike Not tuned Properly Hill work Aerobars and positioning. more bike training needed. possible better bike. Event comments: This is still a top notch race in my book. If I was up to par my day would of been much more enjoyable. I plan to go next year just because I feel I can and need to complete this race including the 13 mile run. Last updated: 2009-07-16 12:00 AM

Wake up at 4:40, shower night before. Bike setup on my truck. Bags organized and double checked. (need to have a check list next time).
Drank 16 ou of coffee. Took a dump 30 minute before race, I didn't have water had to get it from the bathroom.
I double checked my pull string on my wet suit and realized I couldn't unzip it. I asked someone to help. I took off my wet suit and found some how the zipper had extra rubber caught in it. I ripped it out and tested zipper several more times.
