Total Time = 1h 49m 4s
Overall Rank = 278/475
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 61/114
Pre-race routine:

Light yoga and stretching. Lots of waiting around.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 19m 30s
  • 766 yards
  • 02m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wave start, started in back to be conservative but ended up doing a lot of dodging. Bad navigation due to over concern with swim traffic.
What would you do differently?:

Enter water later (waded for two min). Move to front of wave and let people pass me, but would probably not get passed too much.
Transition 1
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

Long run into and out of transition. Would have been better without shoes on. Transition SOP was bad. Left shoe first, then realized I needed my helmet on.
What would you do differently?:

Think about what I'm going to do as I'm running to my bike. Put shoes on bike and run out of transition in bare feet. Mount bike with shoes.
Bike
  • 55m 10s
  • 16.78 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good, again drank too much which bogged me down on run. Back tire may have been rubbing a little on the brakes, not sure. Felt good though overall.
What would you do differently?:

Get my back wheel checked out! Drink less often, maybe only three or four times.
Transition 2
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Had real trouble getting socks on wet feet while standing, then my lower back flared up. Sat down on ground to get running shoes on. Used Chi running techniques to keep my neck and back stretched, which made coming into the run more comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

No more socks! Spent most of my time getting the darn things on.
Run
  • 27m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Lower back injury flared up in T2, but surprisingly my back held up. But it did slow me a little. Got to be very hot early on in the run, so slowed my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little less and try to stay cooler.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer and ice cream.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall focused too much on other racers and not enough on my own form. Maybe mechanical issues with rear wheel. Lower back flare up.

Event comments:

Excellent race event! Well organized, manned, and fun!
