Swim
Comments: Dammit, dammit dammit. I was sooooo pissed off when I saw my time coming out of the water. It confirmed my suspicions that the course was longer than 1500. There was NO WAY that I was five minutes slower than last year. I did, however FEEL that I was having a fantastic swim. This was the first race that I didn't have to fight for a piece of real estate. And it was the first race that I didn't get kicked, punched or swam over. What would you do differently?: Since I got put into a slower heat, I should have started mid-pack instead of my usual safe place at the back. Thank goodness for chip timing! Transition 1
Comments: This could have been faster since I didn't have a wet suit to take off. Guess I spent too much time doing my hair and make up ;) What would you do differently?: HTFU and go faster. Bike
Comments: Rolling hills, hilllllll, climbing, weeeeeeeee fast downhill section or two...did I mention hills? I love this course even though I HATE hills. It makes you really work the gears and there is never a dull moment. I had fun playing cat and mouse with a fellow but I lost him on the last set of rollers. What would you do differently?: I should have known better and used my aero bottle. Because of all the rollers and climbing I didn't get in enough fluid as I should have. Or maybe I spent too much time sight seeing along the way. DOH! I could have sucked it up on the hills and worked harder I suppose. My excuse was that I was saving something for the run. Ya...right. Transition 2
Comments: Smooooooth. Run
Comments: Woot, woot! I was aiming for 55 minutes, and the way I was feeling I thought I might squeak out a 57 minute run. I felt pretty good coming off the bike, but fully expected to feel like shite withing the first 2K. But...I spied Hillary D. and tried to hang on for a while. I was doing well keeping her in sight, but then I had to walk through a few water stops. My legs had started to cramp behind the knees while on the bike, and it was coming back. But I could hear the voice of Hazmaster (who was racing Calgary 70.3 that same day) telling me to stop being a woosy(sp?) little girly girl and pick up the pace :) So I did. And I finished strong. Thanks Haz. What would you do differently?: HTFU! Post race
Warm down: Stuffed my face with the awesome food!! Pancakes, water melon, fruit crumble, fruit salad!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Haven't really done too much tri specific training since the HIM. Whatever. It is what it is. Event comments: Love this race!!!! Lately my pre-race routine consists of worrying about getting Matthew set for the day. I guess that helps a bit in taking my mind off the pre race jitters.
Breaky was a quick couple of slices of toast. I forgot to pack my green tea. Damn.
Met up with Havefun (Stoner) and caught up on the news. Then found Kim and headed down to the beach. Found our buddy Bert hanging out in the water and chatted until our swim heat.
I debated on whether or not I should get in and swim since it was a non-wetsuit swim. And as usual I decided against it and chose to wait in the pottie line up.
